In my experience all the treatments mentioned here (with the exception of sunscreen) actually aggravate melasma. They may produce some superficial results in the short term, but whatever it is that produces the hyperpigmentation just goes into overdrive as a result of treatments such as IPL, laser and especially chemical peels which are all a huge no-no for melasma.
@SGDrWellness3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carla - what I’ve mentioned are options to treat melasma and that the treatment protocol has to be customized. You are entirely right that these treatments may worsen the melasma if the settings or dosage are inappropriate. Thanks for sharing The downside of treatments as well

Hi there. I believe my skin condition to be Malasma. It's only triggered in warm/ hot sunlight. In the winter months it disppears and now that it's April it's now gradually coming back because of a few days walking out in the sun the last couple of days. I ware an spf face cream religiously, but It doesn't do anything. Mine is on forehead and it used to be on my upper lip. It was so bad when I was pregnant I never wanted to leave the house. It's almost it's there waiting to haunt me every spring summer. Help me! 😳🤷♀️😣

Very informative.What about topical tranexamic acid? Been on a combo of arbutin and trenaxa and vitamin e since several monthsl but yet to see any improvement. Had a session of microdermal abrasion at the initial months which worked better how often can you get one? Didn't have much problem with my skin before I started using klairs serum. Everyone says vitamin c and e should be used to prevent malesma and aging but personally I feel the serum I been using is the culprit
@SGDrWellness3 жыл бұрын
vit c and e are not known to effectively treat melasma - they are good for hydration yes. topical tranexamic acid has some mild benefits. micro dermal abrasion may treat superficial epidermal melasma - risk of dryness and skin sensitivity is there.
