I've watched both parts of this coaching and I want to say thanks. I've swapped out many, many engines in the past sixty years and I'm about to do it one more time. And it's a 302. A guy gave me a 1987 F150 Super Cab. Body and interior in EXCELLENT shape but engine seized. I'm going to pull the engine and have a local engine shop do a oil pan up rebuild. I'll shine up the engine bay while it's out. Your two videos didn't show me anything I didn't already know but you did show me a much better approach. Yep, way better. I've also got a '96 Dodge Dakota manual four by four to tow behind our motor home. The Dakota needs a clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, the fly wheel turned and engine mounts. I'm turning it over to a good friend that runs a transmission shop. My friend asked why I wasn't doing it myself. And the answer just popped in my head. I say I'm to old to be laying on the ground on my back under a truck with a bottle jack. Thanks for a good clean, to the point instructional video without a lot of time showing us how to twist a wrench. No dramatic music either. Well done young man. Well done.

You are most welcome Bruce! 🤙 Thank you for all the complaints. Very nice! I like those bullnose 87s. Are you going to put a regular carburetor on it or an EFI carb? I agree with you. After while it’s better to have someone else do the rebuild work. I replaced a lot of the gaskets and seals on my engine. Otherwise, it’s still 237k miles on the internals. Again thank you and thanks for watching! If you haven’t seen any of my other videos I actually have a little over 100 and they’re all based on this year range of F150s. So feel free to check them out.

Hey Steve, I decided to scrap the old motor and go with a new crate motor on My 95 Bronco with the 302, it’s been about a month but it’s finally ready to drop in, I deleted the smog Austen since I don’t need to go through emissions, if you do that with your truck you’ll need a 91” belt since the smog pump pulley has been deleted, I discovered that 3 belts later. I replaced the hardware with new stuff and new parts so my motor has no mileage on her, I’ll keep you posted when I get it running, keep the videos coming they’re a great help

Nice video Stevie! Quick question - I'm planning on pulling the engine out of my 1995 F-150 5.8L/351 V8 with 150,000 miles in a few weeks to replace my oil pan gasket, rear main seal, and motor mounts but I'm curious if there's anything else you'd recommend replacing while the engine is out? I was thinking timing chain but there wasn't much play in it when I replaced the timing chain cover gasket last year (should've just changed it then lol... ).
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters Жыл бұрын
Thanks man!🤙 I’d replace every gasket you can. Timing chain isn’t a bad thing to replace. I’d recommend replacing the water pump. With the oil off, you can replace the oil pick up tube. You can clean out the upper intake manifold/plenum. With that off, you can clean or replace the injectors too. There’s an EGR tube under the plenum as well that can fall apart and cause issues. I pulled the exhaust manifolds off and reinstalled them with new studs. That’s probably it for hard parts that are technically serviceable even with the engine installed. Anything else would be rebuild territory.

Hey I have another interesting question So I am trying to check placement with my Econoline for a common centrifugal blower where the plate has it mounted to the right of the AC compressor and pulley ( well our right facing the truck ) and a straight scroll goes to the dual TB. I think I have it mocked up ( my engine and everything is completely out so right now its a general idea of probable room with prior photos ) properly now the only room issue I may see because obviously the vans engine is farther back.. the master cylinder placement is different but. You know those curly lines that come from the cylinder ? Is that like very specific? I thought I read they just have to be curled in some way as like a pressure "buffer" if you will. Chances are the side of the blower will JUST touch them knowing my decent luck but... they also come out farther than I see here.. I plan to do the brakes with probably some easy bending NiCopp line but like I just didn't know how they could be moved even if bent a little. If specific or its like the equivalent of a braided line with how you can have those coming down. If I had to by a little bit at most a few inches but I bet it fits without. but that is the ONLY thing that could be in the way and a big AC line but I have no AC so.. so that's pretty sweet if I can move those a bit. Thanks
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! That will be a very cool horsepower mod. So, the coiling in the hard break lines is for absorbing vehicle movements. If that particular brake line went straight to the MC, then it’s possible it would fatigue over time from body movements. It’s possible, you could remake the entire brake line and move that coiled section farther down. As long as it’s somewhere in the line, it should do it’s job.
@DS-mo6md
@DS-mo6md 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMinuteMasters oooh okay.. so even going straight down at the start of the flange then especially with nicopp.. yeah it's longer than the 150 like goes out 2-3" before it bends so Im guessing because its factory steel some guy probably had a roller pin and stamped those out all day. so yeah as long as an open coil like a spring to dampen? sweet. thanks man!
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 3 жыл бұрын
@@DS-mo6md Yup, I’d say as long as you have a coil or two to dampen movements, you should be good to go.🤙

6:26 Would it be possible to just unbolt the A/C compressor and lay it to the side instead of disconnecting all the A/C lines? I'm just at the research stage of this project so it might be obvious why you can or cannot do that once I look at it. EDIT: 10:00 I guess I spoke too soon 😁

@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a standard rear main seal gasket. You could look up a better gasket but it did the trick for me. While you have the engine out, replace the water pump + gasket, replace the thermostat + gasket, replace the oil pan gasket, replace the valve cover gasket (only if leaking), replace the rear main seal, and replace the crank seal too. That’s it for the gasket work. You can also replace the timing chain too. Those fixes will definitely help your engine last a good while and be drip free. You can also consider replacing the oil pump too. If you want to do any performance mods, now is also the time to swap camshafts, upgrade heads, valves, and add headers. I hope this helps!🤙
