Holy Cow! Another episode of Stevie from the Minute Masters AND Minute Pops! I was JUST thinking about you yesterday my friend wondering about how you were doing! Bitter sweet. I love that it's done and you did such an AMAZING job, but sad that it's over : (::::::::::. I'm wowed at your fuel mileage as I was just so disappointed with my low mile Tacomo coming in at 19 mpg with a flipping 4 banger last week. That's in town with A/C and into it pretty good most of the day. But still! On you hoist, I've been using an "engine leveler" which attaches to the end of those hoist chains and allows you to tilt the motor in some crazy ways with the aid of a crank and screw set up, aiding in getting it in and out. I generally scribe around the top hood hinges and take the hood off and with two guys, put it back on at night. Makes it full access. Might drip a couple drops of Minute Masters automatic transmission fluid on those dry accelerator linkages and perhaps you'll hit 20 mpg! Love the mile long extension my brother. That thing makes me laugh every time I see it! "Big ass extension!" You're too much. I think you're right about the zip ties since the PO looks like he/she cut that radiator shroud and I'm guessing it would allow contact between the top radiator hose and fan, no good. Stevie, thanks for the ride buddy. I enjoyed every single second of this series and have fallen in love with the purple truck. What a bunch of fun and like a good book, hate to put it down and see it come to an end. Best to Minute Pops. Hope he'll show up in a few more vids as well. Sure do appreciate you sharing your journey! Love it!

Minute Pops! lol I love it!! Yup, I was away the past couple of weekends and I just knew I had to get this video up for you guys. Thank you Patrick! Well the good news is, there are more videos to come. This truck still needs a lot of love. Hopefully, I can get around to doing some fun stuff to her. Yeah isn't the fuel mileage change crazy! I couldn't believe it when I did the math. Wow! That does seem low for a 4 banger for sure. It's funny you mention that. I own a cheapy Harbor Freight engine leveler and I would have used it both times. However, the chains that came with it were too short. I thought about removing the hood but I usually don't have someone to help me. I should have gotten Minute Pops to help me with the hood!🤙 That's a good idea Patrick! I'll definitely lube those cables up. Hahaha! I'm glad you enjoy my humor with my "Big ass extensions." Well Patrick I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos thus far. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I always appreciate it! More videos to come and I'll definitely see about getting Minute Pops in a few more! Have a good one Patrick!🤙

Thanks for the video! Just followed the removal video and install videos to get the 351W removed from my '95 and went smoothly. Was able to replace the timing chain, timing cover gasket, oil pan gasket, oil pump and pick-up tube, rear main seal, and spark plugs (all of this is so much easier to access). However, now that it's all back together, a bunch of white smoke is coming out the tailpipe when I drive her around. Is that a head gasket that needs replacing? I don't know why that would get messed up during this process since I didn't touch any of those bolts. Thanks for the help Stevie!

What are you pointing at in the 2:56 mark? Are you saying to remove the bolts in the tranny crossmember? Does the drive shaft have to be removed to slide the tranny back? In the middle of an install now and I can't get the engine back far enough as the flywheel is hitting the tranny housing. Subscriber and thank you for a super helpful video but I wish you would have shown the process of moving the tranny back!
@TheMinuteMasters10 ай бұрын
I’m pointing at the two nuts that hold the transmission to the crossmember. It allows roughly an inch or so of play back and forth. If you need more room, you will need to support the transmission, remove the driveshaft, and then shift it back more. Otherwise, consider removing the fan from the front of the engine to gain more clearance. Another solution is unbolting the hood as that restricts the angle the engine can be lowered into the truck.

Tough getting it in with all the pulleys still on. I just got mine back in a few weeks ago.....after having rebuilt both my engine and tranny. Lots of stuff to install once the engine was back in, as I upgraded a good number of things. Just about to put in the fan and rad.....and then need to deal with vacuum hoses. Also waiting to get a new oil cap and valve cover bolts, after going from the stock steel low valve covers to a set of tall aluminum covers. Have you ever rebuilt your engine? I think you rebuilt your tranny, didn't you?
@TheMinuteMasters3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Yeah the pulleys do had a few inches that you need to adjust for when putting the engine back in. I wish I had added aluminum valve covers. Is your engine the 5.0? I only did the seals and gaskets on my engine. The internals and timing chain are still 238k miles. I paid to have the tranny rebuild, the rebuilder left a metal shaving inside that caused the OD system to fail. Then I rebuilt it again myself.
@joeidaho59383 жыл бұрын
Hey Stevie, how did you find the process of mating the tranny and engine? First attempt, I ended up pulling the torque converter forward by mistake......and then realized I had to loosen up the tranny crossmember, pull the tranny back, reset the torque converter and then do the painstaking task of mating the two as a one-person show. I had help when first hoisting the engine in .....but my help had way too many opinions...and it became a drama...lol.,,,and no one was being careful about the process. It is not easy at all to get those torque converter bolts to push through the flex plate. Probably much easier when the setup is the other way around.....threading bolts through the flex plate....rather than nuts. THe other thing I struggled with was getting the starter in....a new one. That metal plate behind the flex plate is not a tight fit for bolts....so my guess is that it can get slightly skewed during installation. I ended up getting a dremel and shaving the flange of the starter to get it to sit in that round hole. We'll see how that goes, over time. I can see that it might shift a bit over time, with the torque applied to it regularly. Probably my only real item of concern with this whole project.
@TheMinuteMasters3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t have much issue with the process. I got the transmission lines up and I rotated the torque converter so it was lined up with the flex plate too. Then I bolted the transmission to the engine and then bolted the TC to the flex plate. I didn’t have help both times I’ve done it. My stater went back in as usual and 2 years late I replaced the starter with no issues. You do need to get the plate lined up well though.
@joeidaho59383 жыл бұрын
@@TheMinuteMasters You did good! It'll be a good learning experience if I ever do it again, however regardless it's still gonna be tough to get the plate lined up properly because it's such a fine fine adjustment between the round hole, the bell housing bolt holes and the flex plate gears. There really shouldn't be any movement on that plate. I don't know why they didn't design it with a pretty exact fit, as it's a common problem when I read forums. I think it's supposed to be about 25 thousandths clearance...although it's impossible to measure that when installing. I'm sure I have less than that clearance. By the time I go to install the engine, it has the pollution bracket already mounted and connected to the whole smog system leading to the smog pump, as well as the flex plate, so there it no desire to redo that stuff again...lol.

Hi, I'm installing a 5.8 into my 1995 f150. Your videos show a lot. Did you lever the engine into it's cradle then get the transmission into the engine? Do I have to key the torque converter studs into the flex plate before I can mate the engine to the transmission?
@TheMinuteMasters4 жыл бұрын
Bruce Laden Yes, the transmission was already in the truck but pulled a few inches to the rear for clearance. Then I installed the engine into the cradle and bolted it in place. Next, you slide the transmission forward to mate with the engine. You line up the four torque converter studs so they can bolt up to the flex plate. Once that is done you can bolt the actual transmission itself to the engine.

@@lucasshehan7119 I loosened the bolts on the transmission crossmember, and I was able to slide it back a few inches using a transmission jack.
