Hello Max. Thanks for the great videos on this. I had good success with taking my forks off and having them rebuilt with new seals/bushings due to the 15 year old OEM units leaking. My question here is have you reassembled one of these and found that the fork tubes wanted to level out slightly different from each other? I took great pains to get the top of the tubes exactly the same, right at the cap line, on both sides only to find that the forks were off considerably as far as axle alignment. To get the least resistance with no torque on the axle the right side tube had to be slightly higher up in the triple than the left (1/16" perhaps.) I tightened them down like that and the bike seems to ride fine now but I am a little worried that I may be out of alignment or something. I thought I read somewhere that equalizing the forks at the axle was the way to go and that moving the long fork up in the tree so that you had perfect axle alignment was the proper thing but now I'm second guessing. I appreciate your insight!
@Traxxion3 жыл бұрын
You only set the forks by cap height, the axle doesn't matter. It's a silly myth started by a frame alignment company years ago.

Thanks Mark. Very Instructive video! I will take this opportunity to ask you what is the anti dive fork valve for and if it is true that with a shim you will have a smoother front suspension when going thru road bumps? Thanks for your time!
@Traxxion4 жыл бұрын
The anti dive system is just terrible. Disable it. It fails and stays stuck on, locking the left fork and making the bike very harsh over bumps.

excellent mechanical demo.... tape the tire to disc and use an arrow to indicate forward ..... i would mark r and l fork tubes
@Traxxion Жыл бұрын
It's not possible to put the forks on the wrong side so that isn't necessary... and let's be honest... if you can't tell the right fork from the left fork, you shouldn't have a tool in your hand. The wheel, the tire, and the rotors all have arrows that point in the direction of rotation as well.

Nice job, what is that blue tape/paint around all the tools for? That front tire is more peaked in the middle than any tire I have even seen, is it just the video that makes it look that way?
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
We have tools color coded and bucketed. We have every tool to remove forks on 01-17 Wing in blue, steering head bearings in orange, rear shock in green. 2018+ Wing front shock yellow, rear shock red. We never search for tools and they are easily sorted when we are done. Since we do the same jobs over and over, the sockets are even taped to the extensions so that you don't even have to configure the tools to use them.

Muffin tray great! Fastener organization a must if efficiency is a concern. Smart use of battery driver. Those fender extensions bad news all the way around. I didn’t get mine off the lift without shattering both b-fender and extension. What’s a couple hundred for a new fender?
@Traxxion5 жыл бұрын
Those tabs are problematic even on bikes without the extension, but if you add the extension, you will definitely break the tabs over time.

It's a terrible way to try and build the forks... and you'll be likely to damage the bike around the fork caps... you'll also have to take apart a lot more stuff around the dash panel. It's just not worth it to avoid loosening 6 bolts, and then being able to work on the fork in plain sight on a workbench.
