I ordered the whole set a few years ago and I've thanked myself everyday I've used it for all of my projects. This was money well spent and is a must have set for all gem setting.

nice that she put this up but the hard part and most important part is getting it started which was unfortunately NOT shown. oh well. I'll find it somewhere. Also, I am working on a huge amethyst bezel set cab that appears to have been cement seated around base of the open backed bezel. Is there a solution that dissolves gem cement?

You can set the complete process of unsetting, including the start in my video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpCranRqgK5qjpIsi=9UZpG26MWQJMtZis We use a solvent called Attack to dissolve gem epoxy, you can get it lots of places, just google it. :)

Thank you for making a video about this topic. I am unsetting my first stone; when I had my post earring set up in the graver ball, and while I was setting my turquoise stone, the post snapped off below the solder joint. since I had a ton of tape I didn't notice until the end. :( I am wondering if the engraver ball is to blame or if my wire (21 gauge) was simply too delicate for an earring back? How do you set up your post earrings when getting ready to set? Thank you 💜
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts Жыл бұрын
It is possible you didn’t have it soldered on well enough but if it snapped of during setting, that usually means you didn’t have the earring post completely held in the engraving ball. If it earring is up at all, the sideways force of setting will snap off the earring post.

@@JewelryArts Yeah, I think it was a perfect storm moment again. I just unset my stone, and it went SO well! Stone and bezel are unharmed, and ready to be sanded & set again. That master tool set tho!!! 👌✨🏆Glad to get that "fear of unsetting a stone" out of my way.

I bought this set and I have to say (unfortunately) that I used this tool first and a lot! 🥴 I’m now learning more about the other pieces, through your videos. Soooooo happy that I bought this set. It was expensive for me, so I broke it down into 4 payments on PayPal and that helped a lot.

Resizing the ring is my reason for removing the stone. Any recommendations?
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 5 ай бұрын
You can use this same method to remove the stone, resize and then reset. There are lots of methods that leave the stone in place but unless you have access to a laser welder or similar, it is too risky, especially with a cabochon. :)

Such a helpful video. I have a bunch of necklaces I bought from charity shops where the stones are beautiful, but the bezels have rusted/broken or I can see them looking a LOT better in a different setting. Before watching this, I just didn't know how to remove them without causing damage.

Hello, I hope you can help! How do you do rubover set a single round stone on signet rings? Should I use a flat top with straight edge stone and just glue it? Or a flat top with single bevel stone? If using a FTSB stone that is 1.5mm in height, do i need the bevel to be a bit higher than the stone? And what would the thickness of the bezel should be? Many thanks in advance!
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 2 жыл бұрын
We normally use 26 gauge for bezels but you can go thicker if you like. I only use glue when setting alone may not hold the stone. If your stone is flat topped, the bezel should rise just above the edge to set properly. :)

I have a beautiful gold necklace with a stone like this only is the stone damaged and want it replaced. Will this damage the stone setting? Do you set the new stone the normal way with this technique?
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 3 жыл бұрын
You would set the new stone in the same way, after cleaning up the bezel. If you are careful, you should be able to reuse the setting BUT if you haven't already done this before, you might want to practice first. :)

@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 3 жыл бұрын
@@ffbird7438 You are very welcome! :) I mean sand the bezel down a bit. If you are careful, with a little sanding afterward you should be good as new.

I used this tool for the first time to remove an opal that I damaged while setting in a 22k bezel. It worked wonderfully. The tool set is amazing! Unfortunately I split the bezel halfway down from the top. Is it possible to repair the bezel?
@JewelryArts
@JewelryArts 3 жыл бұрын
I am so glad that it worked for you. In the future, take a closer look at how you are closing your seams, because the force of unsetting ordinarily won't split a bezel. That being said, you can use wood dowels to line up the bezel back together and then solder from the inside to fix it. :)
