Thank you for sharing, very helpful. Wondering if you know how to use a laser welder instead of the hammer action handpiece to do the setting?
@EJguitar1
@EJguitar1 Жыл бұрын
I’d say to try to use the laser to finish up that part maybe a little bit too risky with the Peridot, or most colored stones with the setting like he made here. For peridot, hammer setting is even risky because the stone is so soft. You could try the laser, but risk the possibility of the laser damaging the stone. Also having to find the right laser wire and fiddle with the right settings for the sterling-platinum allow he used for this ring. I don’t like to risk very many colored stone with the laser welder. You can cover the stone with rodico and I also put white lotion on over the rodico covering the colored stone for more protection to hopefully deter the laser from hitting or ricocheting into the stone. Even corundum’s will get a hole blown right through if you’re not extremely careful with the laser. That would work better with just white gold or yellow. With a Diamond in the setting the worry goes down significantly. Both 14kwg and 14kyg are easier to laser weld with than sterling and platinum. I have never used the sterling/platinum alloy but it sounds very intriguing.

@@eminatorstudios No! Argentium is a true Sterling silver alloy with a little bit of Germanium (either 93.5% or 96% silver). NO Palladium added. Firescale free, can be hardned in your oven (harder than 'standard' sterling), a lot more mallable and more white,. About can of worms, well worms differ and cans come in lot of sizes. But, yes there are tradeoffs. It's fragile when glowing red so it breaks easy when moved red hot. Parts may have to be supported. It easaly fuses to it self and 14K or 9K gold, so no soldering required, but solder does exist. No rhodium plating needed.
