Thanks Mike for the video. Definitely will help me with my replacement headlights. About 4 years back got my hands on a 2005 single cab gmc canyon and had the same problems minus the grille guard. I decided to do LED lighting all the way around.

Did you have to get the headlights aligned?
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
Hi! In this case, no, I did not. Came out pretty straight as-is. You can always do this yourself by parking pointed at a wall on a flat, level surface, and turning the adjustment screws as needed.

That looks great with the new lights, only other thing I think I would've done while it was apart I;d change the grill out for the all new chrome grill. Give it a real nice look, other wise a nice looking truck. Nice job, well done.
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, there's a couple new grill options. I've seen a few mock-ups people are making with 3D printers, one with the Chevrolet logo embossed into it, stuff like that. Definitely some cool options available for customizing these trucks. 😊

Hi Mike, want to sell it ?
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
@@johnm4579 Hi John! Funny you should ask. I did just sell it. After more than a decade of ownership and 241,000 miles, it was time to move on to a new owner. It was a great truck though and I plan on staying active in the Colorado/Canyon forums, and hope that my videos can continue to help many other owners keep their trucks on the road for years to come. 🙂

@@CompTechMike I still have mine, it’s 2011 crew cab, 2.9L, rwd, has around 85k miles, I bought it in 2016 with 20k miles, so far great truck very reliable and cheap maintenance and also it’s paid off, I have plan to keep it next 5+ years, I’m replacing headlights now, I call it wealth building car, I’m going to put paint protection film on new headlights so they look like new longer also I used JB clear weld to seal edges on headlights, I like cars so much but I can’t see myself with 1000$ monthly payment plus parts and labor to fix new cars is pretty pricey, I have zero issues with my Colorado and it has only 85k miles 200k miles is pretty far, I might need new transmission when I cross 100k miles, but better one time 4k$ for transmission than 12k$ yearly payment plus maintenance.

@@Sloba1992 Hi Sloba! That's great! Thanks for checking out my video. Glad to hear yours is still running so well. It sounds like your mileage is low and you're doing the necessary work to keep it on the road for a long time. I would suggest also checking the frame, as frame rot on these Colorado's has landed many an otherwise well-running vehicle in the junkyard. Especially if you're up north somewhere where they put a lot of salt on the roads. As the old saying goes, "take care of her and she'll take care of you". 😊 I recently bought a new truck for my business and you're right about new truck payments frequently being over $1000/mo. now. On the bright side there's a warranty, so I'm not having to do so much maintenance myself. Getting a bit old for that, now. 😉 But yes, you'll save a lot of money if you keep taking care of your old one. Stay safe out there!

In this video I'm removing the brush guard, grille, and headlight assemblies in a 1st generation Chevy Colorado in order to replace the extremely fogged over headlights and corner markers / turn signals housings. This video should be applicable to most 1st generation Chevy Colorado's, as well as GMC Canyon, Hummer H3, and the Isuzu variants. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments. If this video was helpful please 'like' and 'subscribe'. Thanks!

Do you still have those OE assemblies? I'll buy them from you.
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
Sorry, no, I do not. Tossed them in the plastic recycling once I was sure the new ones were working well. Try sites like eBay or Amazon, or if you just want old housings maybe your local junkyard? Good luck!

@@CompTechMike I do have a question for you Mike, another thing I want to do is put LED lights instead of Halogen types. What do you recommend???
@CompTechMike Жыл бұрын
@@michelangelosworld4401 Hi! Honestly in 240,000 miles I've never felt the need for LED headlights in my Colorado. I use Sylvania Silverstar headlights from my local auto parts store. The ones that say "Brighter downroad + white light" on the packaging. 9005's for the high beams and fog lights and 9006's for the low beams. I do have the mod (jumper wire on the relay) that allows me to run high & low beams simultaneously. In over 10 years I've had no trouble with state safety inspection running this setup. The bulbs do tend to burn out faster than cheaper (less white) bulbs, so I buy them with the two year warranty. Then if/when one goes bad I just bring it to the local parts store and get a new one. 😆 Hope this helps! If you do decide to do LED bulbs, I'd recommend asking on the websites 355nation.net, coloradofans.com, or in the Facebook group "Chevy Colorado & Canyon (First Gen) Fan And Owner Page": facebook.com/groups/1191961547485485 Hope this helps!

What I was going to is spray Rust-Oleum clear for plastic 2x UV Resistant on new ones . Did you know anything about using that Rust-Oleum?
@CompTechMike2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the comment. I assume you're looking for a way to clearcoat the grille or headlights to protect them from UV damage & fading? I've never done that personally, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I know people will pretty frequently use spray paint or Plastidip or other products to alter the appearance of their parts. If you do it, I'd suggest test in a small area, first. Let us know how it works out. Good luck!
