So, First, thanks for your tutorial. It helped me BUT : I had some issues : The first was the fact that I had the well known "Access denied" for the "bootrec /fixboot" command (that was solved with the "bootsect /nt60 sys /mbr" command (thanks to Adwyred YT)) Then I got the "Total identified windows installations: 0" problem. I tried to repair the bcd, that didn't work (with tons of command resulting in "Path c:\boot not found"). So I restarted my pc (to reinstall windows), but it loaded my windows session without asking me anything. I don't know why it did this, but it's working fine for now. I'm sharing this so maybe it can help some people having the same troubles as me.

This just left my laptop in a loop of black screen and a non-functional Grub screen, as mentioned by previous posters. To quote, it says "GNU GRUB version 2.02. A Complete Guide (including the solutions to all the problems that could be encountered): Part 1: Removing the Ubuntu OS - Login into Windows - Open Disk Management. Identify which partition contains Ubuntu. Generally there are only two partitions but there can be more depending on how you configured the system during installation. Right-click on the Ubuntu partition(s) and select Delete (If it says 'Free space' after deleting, delete once more and it should now show 'Unallocated'). Now right-click your Windows partition and select Extend Volume. Keep clicking Next when the Wizard opens. Part 2: Removing the GRUB Bootloader - Open the Windows Start Menu. Click on the Power button, then hold down the Shift key and select Restart. Keep holding till you see a blue Options Menu Screen. Open Troubleshoot, then select Command Prompt. If you end up in GNU GRUB, just enter exit, then select your User and enter your password to access the Command Prompt. - Once in the Command Prompt, enter the following series of commands: - bootrec /fixmbr - bootrec /fixboot (If it denies access, enter bootsect/nt60 sys and try again) - bootrec /scanos (If it says Total identified Windows installations: 0, instead of 1, just continue) - bootrec /rebuildbcd (If asked whether to add installation to boot list, enter A) - exit - You should now be back in the Options Menu. Select Continue. - If you end up in GNU GRUB again, reboot your system, enter the BIOS settings and change the boot order to bring Windows to the top. - You're done! (Though make sure you delete the correct drive) Open Command Prompt as Administrator. Hello my friend, it is working however when I try this operation bootrec /scanos and hit enter the system did not found any Windows installation. Weird! Maybe because Ubuntu was on disk1 and Windows10 on disk 0? However I continue with your explanation. So, I did bootrec /rebuildbcd. The same, operation completed but no Windows found. I get worried but after booting again everything worked well! Awesome! And before that I got this message : Access denied" for the "bootrec /fixboot" command. Just piece of an advice: try first to remove the GRUB Bootloader (GRUB is removed if Windows is loaded automatically) and after that you can be sure that it is safe to remove Linux partition. Guys after you remove the grub boot loader and bootrec /rebuildbcd or stuff done successfully but still your not able to go into windows, Don't panic just restart your pc press esc button or f8 f10 depends on your pc bios then enter your BIOS go to boot order list or boot menu then you can see your windows boot disk just take that to the top to load that and save and exit restart it once again there you go you will boot into windows . If nothing works there might be a restart key on your laptop just use a pin to press it.This will take you to the boot menu from where you can change the boot options.

In the command prompt... type the following commands: diskpart list disk (Now select the disk in which windows in installed. For eg. disk 0) select disk 0 list partition (Now note down the partition no. in which your windows is installed. For eg. 1) select partition 1 active Now reboot... Hi thanks for the tutorial ! I have a specific question : I have a similar install on my desktop pc : Win10 + Ubuntu. I want to clone my hhd onto a SSD to boost my pc. But I am afraid that doing that without removing ubuntu first could mess up Grub bootloader. I am afraid to loose access to ubuntu at start up. Yes,That happend to me also. But luckily I had my windows installation disk. If you have a android phone, download etchdroid and ububtu iso. Then make your usb bootable. After installing ubuntu turn off your pc. And you will see windows boot option. Hope this helps :)

Thos with issues accesing the command prompt. My pc didn't even have that option. You have to pop in your installation CD or a bootable usb key (I created mine with Rufus). Then boot from the CD/usb and within the OS installation wizard choose the repair option, you'll find the command prompt inside

I deleted all linux partitions and followed instructions through command prompt, but it failed to find any Windows installation. I did enter bootrec /rebuildbcd as suggested below and while it executed the command again no Windows install was identified. I exited and rebooted. The grub manager is still there through which I can enter Windows. Any suggestions?

Go into your boot menu (google your boot menu key on hard restart (press power key), On HP its press and hold ESC, then access start menu then F9 to access boot menu and select Windows Boot Manager.

Heres a helpful comment If the linux distro is on a seperate drive, you can completely wipe the drive by going into disk manager, right clicking all of the drive's partitions, deleting them, and doing whatever you want with the drive customizability.

Just restart your pc Go to the startup menu Then go to boot device setup And select the working os

If you get 0 installations or can’t remove it. Shut down your pc and when you reboot it, it will not start back up. But this is an ez fix open boot menu when you start up pc, such as f2 or f12 depending on your pc then switch the windows boot to the top of any other boot. Then it will boot up that instead. This only works if you installed a bot and put it above windows. If it rewrote your old boot it won’t work but should work since this searches for different boot managers.

I had two different allocations for Ubuntu(each 20gb). I unallocated both and extended one of the windows partition, but now only one of those two got merged with it and other is leftover. When I restart and die the command prompt step, once clicking in command prompt to open it, it brings me to a black screen only saying "error: no such partition. For those who couldn't perform the steps for removing the grub bootloader and ended up in 'grub rescue'. I wasn't able to fix bootloader from 'grub rescue', it gave me error 'unknown filesystem' for all the filesystems present. So I had to create a windows bootable drive and followed below steps. 1. Boot using the bootable drive. 2. On the Install screen, There is a 'repair' option at the bottom left. Click on the option. 3. Go to Advanced options -> cmd and perform the remaining steps mentioned in the video for removing grub.
