How to Remove Logos from Clothing in Photoshop
Labels and graphics on clothing can be distracting or unwanted in a photograph. Clients will often want logos removed - especially if they are from a competing brand. Sometimes it is better to remove them completely.
Learn how to remove logos from clothing in today’s episode.
Copy Texture & Patters
At times, logos are placed over textures and patterns on clothing. These textures need to be replaced when removing a logo.
To replace a texture or pattern, look for a similar pattern on another area of clothing.
Create a new layer and use the Clone Stamp Tool to sample the “good” texture and paint it onto the new layer. Be sure that “Sample - Current & Below” is checked in the settings for the Clone Stamp Tool.
Once the pattern has been duplicated to a new layer, transform it into place using CTRL/CMD+T. Try lowering the opacity of the layer to see where it will cover.
If necessary, do this multiple times from different areas of clothing to fully cover the logo.
After copying the texture from one area to another, you may need to alter it slightly. Use a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to change color and lightness. Use a Brightness/Contrast Adjustment layer to lower contrast and darken a texture.
To make an adjustment layer only effect the layer underneath it, right-click on the adjustment layer and click on “Create Clipping Mask”
Don’t forget the Brush Tool!
When working with large patches of color, sometimes the best tool for the job is the Brush Tool. While it is not great for replicating patterns and textures, it can be used to quickly color large areas.
Start off with a small brush and remove just the logos by sampling the colors around it (ALT/OPTN+CLICK to sample). When you are done painting the smaller areas, make the brush large and soft-edged and paint in to blend the colors in with the clothing.

Aaron once again gives an amazing tutorial that helps you not only do the logo removal, but he also helps you understand how layer masks work, how layers work together, and how photoshop works overall. Fantastic, I cannot thank you enough Aaron!

I suppose the brush tool would work in a pinch, but there's no way I'm using ONLY the brush tool on an image with texture - even if I have to change the levels to see the difference, it's not a professional way to retouch.

You're right! It needed some skillful clone job. The way he did on the sweater can do the job for a web compressed picture or for a small print, but not for professional printing. I work with image editing for 10 years and a lot of times you can see textures or colors in the paper that you couldn't see clearly on the screen. The lack of texture and the flat colors are too lame. I know this guy can do a lot better, this is a tutorial for beginners or enthusiast amateur with little photoshop experience.

Like the hat work. I find content aware fill can work great too and save a ton of time, and often reach for that first of all to see what it comes up with. On this image it removed most of the chest logo with just a few large fill steps with texture preserved and colour well blended. Didn't work well for the inner area so then used the other tools there.

on the shirt , you need to add back the grain you removed. you dont want what u painted to look smooth , and everything else has noise and more detail. also on the clipping mask , lets say on the curves adjustment , instead of right clicking etc etc etc , there is a button on the bottom of the adjustment panel . keep up the great work

when transforming the patch, right click and use deformation for more organic/rounded look and its faster and easyer as well. for the upper logo on the hat you could also just have overlayed black color since the texture was already there. (freq. sep.) also you could just copy the part of the hair to another layer and use visibility mask to hide the white parts and then just draw black unter the layer to cover the original while logo.

I know this is older and I am just learning and have a question. Could you set a mask for the white like a focus and with adjustments where you can select the white and create a layer and then do your work in less steps. Something like you did with another lesson. and it could all be painted and areas cloned and you wouldn't need to touch up as much?

When you are erasing the logo on her shirt, I was wondering if a bigger brush can blend the colors in better, why not just use a larger brush in the first place?

Hi Aaron! Great case study but... in real world people wear many colors. Black is very specyfic case. Other colors reveal wrinkles of material. Any logos on shirt become additionally shaded. How deal with such a situation where texture and wrinkles appear together ?
