How to Remove Macbook Pro Anti Glare Coating in 2020! Forget Mouthwash!

After some experimenting this was the best method i have found to remove the anti-glare coating on a Macbook Pro.
Dont bother using mouth-wash that is a joke, even Brake cleaner couldn't defeat the Coating

After scrubbing it off with some plain tissue papers, it went away. Probably some residue from the wipes. All in all, a super positive improvement, thank you once again!!

Worked like a charm. I did not even have any residue once I wiped the remaining fluid off with first a paper towel (very delicately) and then a microfiber cloth. Looks brand new (if a bit more glare-y). Also it took me about 20 minutes. That was a lot easier than I anticipated when I discovered the issue.

I just did this on a MacBook Pro 13” Retina I bought used. The screen looked absolutely horrible but it now looks perfect. By doing this the screen becomes more reflective (almost like a mirror when switched off) but it’s far better than the inconsistent and splotchy look of bad anti reflective coating. I really did not think this was going to work but it actually did. The key for me was constantly switching out the baby wipe. Even when it still has some moisture there is a point when it becomes ineffective and you need a new one. I went through about 8 in total but whatever chemical is in the wipe removed the residue. I kept going in circles with minimal pressure and it looks totally restored. Amazing. Thanks RIck.

It works! I did find that rubbing alcohol and listerine also worked, as did kitchen degreaser - on a chux wipe. You can't have the cloth too wet or you don't get the friction you need. About the same wetness as a baby wipe. Rub so you can feel some friction, using a fingernail behind the cloth for stubborn bits. And keep moving to a fresh area of cloth as the fibres seem to get clogged and stop cleaning after a short while. A water rinse with a *just* damp cloth, followed by a soft dry cloth to polish - perfect screen at last! No doubt baby wipes are much nicer on the skin than the first 3 things I tried. The baby wipes tidied up some stubborn corners nicely that the degreaser wasn't working on. Great discovery, thanks!

This is good to know. I should know this since I've been using Apple products since the '90s, but do all MacBooks have anti-glare coating? I have a 2019 MacBook Pro and 2023 MacBook Pro 14". Both screens are not showing fog, but I somehow scratched the screen on the newer one. I wiped it with a clean fiber cloth and it scratched it! Do you have any recommendations to fix this? It does not appear to be a deep scratch. I've heard to use toothpaste, but not quite ready to apply it to a very expensive screen, unless a professional recommends. Thank you for your videos!!

Been trying (testing before I ruin my screen) a few, so far: listerine: sticky, works slowly but can do the job. the flavored ones left a sugary feel I had to clean. Cleaning wipes: foamy, left little hairs after a while, imo better than the listerine. Baby wipes: to be seen after I go get some, but I’ve high hopes 😂. Will update soon. UPDATE: yup, way better indeed. They’re quicker and not nearly as messy. 10/10 best option.

I didn’t have baby wipes on me, but I noticed I had makeup wipes which shared a lot of the same ingredients as the baby wipes you used. They work, but I quickly learned that I have to focus on one small area and keep rubbing it on repeat in a circular motion rather than wipe across the entire display

Thank you so much, tried lots like mouthwash and nail polish remover, and even J+J baby wipes but found the trick was fragrance free face wipes from Lidl UK... spent minutes cleaning the screen that Apple said earlier this year was unrepairable and it is brilliant! Thanks! I tried two types of wipes. The first one was Dude Wipes, they're baby wipes for men who are insecure in their masculinity. The second was Top Paw Ear and Eye wipes for pets. Dude Wipes weren't too bad with a little work but the pet wipes annihilated the antiglare coating which has me wondering whether I should be scrubbing my dog's eyes out with them.

Any chance mate you are from Aussie? I need to find the correct baby wipes here in New Zealand. My old Macbook pro had the antireflective coating half peeled off and it was really easy to get it done like in a few minutes. This time the little bugger does not want to play the game after trying different things like baking soda and huggies baby wipes. Thanks for sharing the ingredients.

Wow ..this is crazy how well this works. I refurb MacBooks and had been using baking soda mixed with water. That method worked but took hours. Using baby wipes I was done in 10 minutes. Wow...kicking myself for not finding this video until now.

Thanks a lot, this really helped. To be fair, I run out of baby wipes and decided to clean the rest of the screen with mouthwash (Colgate, in my case) and one of the dry wipes, which worked slightly better. Cheers!
