i am not responsible for any damage or risk. this video is only for demonstration purposes....
My experience:
1- use a broken monitor for testing and getting some experience.
2- learn the different layer types in monitors from technical videos so you don't lkift too much layers up.
3- the coating layer has no color. it is transparent!
4- Do the research on the specification manual about the coating type = H3 is OK mostly (thick, hard and water can solve it)!
-5 Older Monitors like these Dell U2711, W3007WFP, W3008WFP with H3 Anti-Glare coating are easy to uncoat. The U3014t has a H3 but thinner coating and it can break much easier.
Newer IPS types like LG38uc99 or others have thinner H3 layers of coating and the material is not so leaky enough for water.
6- Always make a test on the corners first and dissasembly the monitor with the help of some research on the net.
-7 You should wet the monitor for 30 minutes and take a test on the corner then.
when the coating can be lifted without any great effort you can continue, otherwise wait some 15 minutes more in sequences.

For anybody wondering a reliable way to check if it’s a polarizer or an anti glare coating before fully committing to a peel. Peel like one TINY piece of the monitor off near a corner where the black bezel is still there and you should see 2 types of layers. Put. a piece of paper under said peel and you will see Dark grey OR light grey. Dark grey is the polarizer and it means you’ve gone too far down. Wait longer or aim your knife or tool slightly higher. I found a razor blade works best but your’s might not like it. The light grey is the coating and you should not see any dark patches on it. It should be perfectly clear with maybe a grainy texture. And for anybody wondering the dark grey is VERY dark. Just look up videos online about removing the polarizer. And look up anti glare coatings. They are night and day. So trust the piece of paper.

Thank you! Just did my Dell S2721QS 4K monitor very carefully, the colors, the contrast, the sharpness are just outstanding now! Don’t understand why companies don’t have two options for at least some monitors, never going back to matte now 🤩 Edit/Update: 3 months in and still working excellent, no distortion or irregularities. Except for one thing, if you do this please don’t use anything to clean your screen (I wouldn’t even recommend water) besides a dry microfiber cloth gently. Reason being, I without thinking used cleaning spray and made a little stain on edge of the screen on the polarize layer since it had alcohol. Not very visible when screen is on, hate it but still worth it, just be careful 😅

Did you have to take it apart? Seem like the film can be removed as is?
@design_by_sunny
@design_by_sunny 2 жыл бұрын
@@_Mario_PL_ Yes, you have to take the frame apart to get the front plastic off (where the Dell logo is), because the film goes half way down the plastic portion. I would not recommend taking film off without taking the Monitor apart because water may not fully go down to the bottom edge of the film and of course water could get into areas where you might not want it to go, it’s tedious but worth it.

Thanks for the video. I used to do this when I made projectors out of lcd monitors lol. The antiglare was removed to increase the brightness of the display. These were only 17" monitors at the time, they were fun projects. A word of warning to anyone attempting this is to be very careful with the ffc connectors. These are the connectors "ribbons" on the edge of the display. They are extremely fragile and can tear easily. I managed to tear one of these connectors because my microfibre cloth got caught on the edge when i was "carefully" wiping down the monitor. I had just removed the antiglare and everything was perfect then ripped the ribbon with the bloody cloth, could not believe it, still gives me nightmares. Just treat them as if they are made of paper and you will be alright lol. 😀

Did this on an Asus eeePC 701 (famous mod to remove the antiglare). I have several ones, but had one with a huge scratch on the screen, so I started with that. I made a mistake of not waiting long enough. Tried to pick up the antiglare after 15-20 minutes, and it started to peel, but took off little pieces from the polarizer as I tore it. I let it soak one more hour just to see if it gets better, and it actually did. After that, I managed to peel the antiglare without damaging the remaining polarizer area. For this one, at the end I decided to peel the polarizer film as well, which came off a bit harder, but totally manageable with some patience. I will either buy a replacement polarizer film, or keep this one as is (I have 4 others, I bought them for modding/experimenting), and make privacy googles from the polarizer film.

@@tsk-meteakabruceleekills1311 I say this as a rule of physics. What I'm saying is not just to to peel off the monitors. To pull a wheeled car, do you lift it up or do you pull it parallel to the ground? You are pulling with the monitor at an angle close to 90 degrees. However, if you pull it from as narrow an angle as possible with the monitor, it will be much easier to peel off and you will avoid the risk of damaging the monitor.

Hi, Im trying this with a small Philips display and because I live in Australia everytime I put paper towls out they evaporate really quickly. Even after 8 hours of soaking the antiglare doesn't seem to want to detatch from the polarizing layer. Apart from regularly checking every hour to make sure its still wet, do you have any advice on how to separate the layers? The polarizing layer is very clear but the antiglare hasn't peeled up yet. I think it's pretty much impossible to do this on some modern ips gaming monitors. my display only has what looks like 1 incredibly thin layer of material ontop of the lcd glass. could not get them to separate even 0.1mm on the corner so I gave up. Really does look like they are using a polarizer that has a matte finish and not separate layers. only option may be polishing the matte finish to a mirror finish, which I know someone who did that to an xg2431.

Is it H3 or some semi matt coating? But you did the right decision. If you realise your chances are low, break up. I'll try a Lg38uc99 IPS today with curved screen. For me it also looks like a new type of coating with thinner surface structure. Update on the LG38uc99: i began with the corners and realized that the coating is breaking and is too thin. I stopped right there to prevent the destruction. Seems to work only on older types of H3.

Changing the polarizer sheet is a very difficult operation. Just removing it is the simple part. You'd have to find a proper sized one, probably on ebay/aliexpress and you'd want to use screen protective fluid (the one they use to apply silicone screen protectors on smartphones displays) and have some experience with it. Maybe some technicians who do this daily to smartphones could help you out with it but if you've never done it, I'd say don't try it as it's quite difficult to pull off well.

Hello, can I have your monitor Monitor Alienware Gamer FreeSync 27 AW2720HF? Anti-glare 3H hardness ?
@tsk-meteakabruceleekills1311
@tsk-meteakabruceleekills1311 3 жыл бұрын
I've read H3 hardness with a regular haze level of 25% which is a typical value (in the manual pdf of the monitor). But i admit i never tried a newer monitor model. The glue under some screens could be stronger....

I almost removed my polarizer too, by accident. Gladly, I realized I was removing both layers in time, to cancel it. Unfortunately on my screen there's no distinction between the anti-glare layer and the polarizer, as they're both glued with same measurements.
