I'm this video we remove an old concrete laundry sink / tub that was in poor condition. These old sinks are very very heavy and can be difficult to remove from your house or basement.
Installing a modern laundry sink can be a do it yourself project without any previous DIY experience.

The value is someone with no home improvement experience wanting to see a process before they tackle a new thing 😊👍🏼🛠️

How long did it take you to bust your sink up? I've gotta do that project in my house

Hello. The breaking of the old concrete sink is actually pretty easy. Don’t forget eye protection. Removing all the mess took longer than breaking the sink as I recall. 2 men 20 minutes approximately.

And then what did you do with all the pieces? Just slowly put them in with the trash over the coming weeks?

Yes it was just sent to the trash cart with weekly pickup...

I built a new base for mine, waterproofed it using a polyester penetrating sealant, replumbed it, and it looked awesome. We moved out of the house, but it worked great and I sold my house for $250k more than I'd bought it for 4yrs earlier.

That’s awesome. Thanks for sharing. Good advice

@rickrudd, what did you do for the new base? I’d like to keep my sink but the legs are rusted, so it isn’t sturdy, which is a safety hazard.

It's not concrete its soapstone, most likely made by Alberene. They can be sanded and oiled to a beautiful black finish. Shame to ruin it.

Thank you for that history. I think I did mention in the video people can re-purpose these. Thanks for watching 😊🏠

That’s sad to see that sink get smashed, I just pull the one of of my dads old house to use in our new laundry room of our new house, yes it leaked also but we will epoxy the inside of the sink to give it a new clean no leak finish and keep the old look on the outside. You could have sold that sink for the cost of the entire project. For anyone else doing the same thing.

Sorry, that pipe needs to go to a drain, not the sump pump!…

Thanks. The sewer line in this basement is 6 foot higher than the floor… So any scenario will involve pumping this water up to some extent…

I believe he means that a sump would normally pump ground water to a sewer line that also carries rain water and bypasses treatment plants in some areas. Laundry water should go to a sanitary Line

Is that a 2-lb hammer? I am thinking to buy a 8-lb sledgehammer but feel like it is overkilled. Thanks.

I think a “full size” sledgehammer is 10 pounds. I believe the hand one in this video is probably around 3 pounds.
