How to Remove Old Paint Protection Film (Clear Bra)

In this video Extreme Colors Auto Spa's owner, Doug Payne, demonstrates how to remove old, nasty, deteriorated clear bra. It's an aggressive approach, but goes faster than any other method. You will need a drill, an eraser wheel (3M preferably), Goo Gone Gel, Xpel Paint Protection Film Cleaner, Xpel Sealant (or your wax/sealant of choice), and some microfibers. NOTE: DO NOT USE ERASER WHEEL ON ANY SUBSTRATE OTHER THAN METAL!! DO not use the eraser wheel on plastic, fiberglass, or rubber as it will destroy those materials upon contact!

This guy is nuts with his power tools. You will 100 % see swirling and defects in the paint like this. You simply put light heat...blow dryer/ low setting on a heat gun and slowly peel it back. I have removed plastic on both rocker panels of my 08 viper with 10 year old plastic on them very safely and easily.

You said that you cannot remove film from a front bumper and it has to go to a body shop. Were you assuming that the front bumper is plastic ? The bumper of my super duty is painted steel, can film be removed from that or does my truck have to go to the body shop as well. Thank you for the video.

I've used 3M eraser wheels to remove decals from painted fiberglass outboard engine cowlings without issue. Why cant you use it on a plastic bumper?

Plastic razor blades and heat to take off the film After use goo gone with the plastic scraper and a rag to get rid of the adhesive that’s left. Any power tools will increase the chance drastically of messing up the clear coat and paint. I

bassmaster1953 this would be for bad cases where the protective film is cracked and comes off in very small pieces when using a heat gun or steamer. Only for metal panels!

These could not be removed in 5 minutes, so no, it's not a joke. Once the PPF is disintegrated they can't be removed easily.
