100% works ,ive herd basically any thing containg 'dichloromethane' in a 30%+(min) is what removes the powdercoat,thank you for the vid,just saved me 175+ getting 2 very small parts soda or glass blasted,ps took some hard scraching with the plastic side of the brush n not the brush for me,but i think cos its almost 100c temp day in west aus & the crc was drying way to fast to have time to eat into the coating effectivly,but yep 100%job done,awsome share vid bro thankyou
@russellpritchard7432 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does dry out quickly in hot weather. A guy in another comment suggested spraying them, and then putting them in a plastic bag, or ice cream container or something, so it can continue to eat into the powdercoat without drying out.
@77Avadon772 жыл бұрын
@@russellpritchard743 yes air is your enemy. Spray them and then put them in a sandwich/bread bag and twist it up tight. Then you can actually massage it with hands. Hopefully it doesn't eat through plastic bags? I use "Great Value" Plastic Bread Bags for this kind of thing. One thing i like is that you're not using mechanical means which can damage sensitive parts or change dimensional tolerances.

Very good !! will do Wondering if you could spray then place in baggy or wrap in foil for better penitration less spray.
@russellpritchard7432 жыл бұрын
that would probably work. It does dry out quickly, especially in hot weather, and I'm sure putting it in a bag would minimise that. Good idea. Thanks.

There’s a new product out called RIM STRIPPER but it’s way too expensive but if you soak a car wheel in it all the powder coated stuff just falls off, it’s $700 for 5 gallons

Just an update. I believe in some countries they have removed the chemical from this product that makes it effective on powder coated. I know that it still works here in Australia. Dichloromethane I believe it is. So probably better to check and see if the product sold in your country still has this chemical in it.

Precisely! "Methylene Chloride" by its other name. Used to decaffeinate coffee beans but we CANNOT BUY IT!
@jbw999918 күн бұрын
Eastwood had a product called Down to Metal here in the US, but it's not available anymore. It's main ingredient was Dichloromethane {Methylene chloride; R-30; Freon 30}. So I'm not sure what we can use now. BTW, the MSDS for Down to Metal was pretty scary. Wear heavy duty gloves and a good respirator when you use that gasket stripper, especially as an aerosol.

Be careful about breathing that stuff in though - probably be a good idea to wear a pro paint respirator, I'm sure it does a number on your lungs.

hi There are 2 ways chemicals strip powder coat . 1/ dissolving the coating 2 /separating the coating from substrate At least 3 different paint stripper types 1x new version almost does not work 2x older chemicals [1 is banned in the USA ] All 3 chemicals are in Aust.

Can this technique need to be used on a small patch of powder coating without ruining the coating that surrounds the area, if taped off properly? The guys who powder coated my bike covered the brake assembly stems, and they're supposed to be bare metal. I can't install my brakes until I remove the coating.

@russellpritchard7434 жыл бұрын
@@cagri7184I have never had it affect steel either. Mind you, you need to paint, or re-powdercoat steel very quickly, as it starts to rust very quickly. The bracket in the video was steel. It is now re-powdercoated, and re-installed on the bike.

Really? That’s what you’re worried about? I don’t know where you live, but a can of gasket stripper doesn’t cost anywhere near $25 here. Besides, it’s just an off cut of board that I use for all sorts of odd jobs like this on. I’m still using it to this day.
