This video was an awesome help. I mailed off my form 1 to SBR my PS90 2/27/17 and just got it back approved 9/29/17. Seven long months kind of flew by. I took off my original barrel and replaced it with the CMMG 10.4" one in just a matter of minutes. I watched this video several times during the wait for the tax stamp. Only thing I did different was use an automatic center punch to get starting divot for the drill bit. Thanks for the video.

Since I don't live in "The People's Republic of California" I just got my SBR tax stamp from the ATF for my PS90 and thanks to your video, I'll feel confident installing it soon! Thanks for the video--and yes, you do make it look easy--which means you know what you're doing! I appreciate your video!

Thank you for this video, it gave me the courage to do it myself, I'm a novice gunsmith and I hate taking my projects to have someone else do them. I replaced my barrel with a CMMG 10.4" and the P90 break after my form 1 came in(took 28 days 1/13/2020 to 2/11/2020). Everything came out perfect, and my 16" barrel and shroud is still in tact. Again, much thanks!

Even though this video is old. Followed the instructions and it worked perfectly. I replaced my barrel with a short barrel. The original barrel and shroud are in perfect condition besides the tiny hole to remove the PIN. Thank you. It was as easy as you demonstrated.

This was unbelievably helpful. Thank you. The biggest issue is realizing the entire front part of the barrel is not the barrel. Once you showed that, this was an easy job to do.

What if I just want to change the barrel?
@jagertroop Жыл бұрын
This method will absolutely not work for California due to new laws. Current AW regulations require that anything added to the barrel/muzzle to achieve 30” OAL is required to be permanently attached (blind pinned and welded, circumference welded, or High Temp Silver Solder). It is also arguable that Federal OAL may not be satisfied due to the lack of permanence of the attached shroud. There’s a reason FN blind pinned the factory shroud.

LEAVE CALIFORNIA I know this is easier said than done and much more a meme than anything, but if you can figure out anywhere else to go, do it. I'm lucky enough to live in PA and I completely understand if you can't move but trust me, if you can, leave.

Where are all the removed 16in barrells? I would like to purchase one
@sammyjit0072 жыл бұрын
I do not want to be this person, but installing a Huntertown arms shroud is Illegal unless the Huntertown Arms shroud is blind-pinnned in place just like the OEM shroud. Firstly, the barrel shroud does not contribute to overall length unless it is considered part of the barrel. (Any muzzle device applies). The barrel is 16 inches. However, the shroud extends 3 or so inches beyond the barrel. If you measured the overall length from the butt of the rifle to the muzzle end of the barrel it would be around 23 inches. The shroud gives the remaining 3 inches of overall length only if the shroud is blind-pinned in place just like FN did (This explains why FN USA orders uppers from Belgium this way). Loctite does not fit the legal description of permanence. Secondly, fastening the Huntertown arms barrel shroud all the way is probably a bad idea. The original barrel shroud is installed with a loose fit. There is a spring at the "forward trunnion" that allows for natural movement in the barrel/shroud assembly. FN would not have put this in the design unless there was a functional reason. In my speculation, this could lead to malfunctions when feeding cartridges (I could be totally wrong here, it is merely speculation). Thirdly, if you want to install a threaded barrel shroud, I would recommend asking a gunsmith/machinist to properly install it. Not every gunsmith can do it, but most machinists can. It can be hard to find someone who is proficient in both. You may be able to successfully do this yourself, however, as soon as the pin is removed from the OEM PS-90, you are technically in possession of an SBR. I am not a Lawyer, these claims are possible conjectures.

If I want to swap the barrel with the cmmg 10 in, do I need to drill the pin out or go straight for loosening the rear thread?
@carlosfranco1458 Жыл бұрын
Drill the pin out, then loosen the rear thread. You will want to put a wooden dowel as you slide the barrel out keep the springs in place. Then when you put the new 10 in Barrel repeat the process sliding the Dowel out to keep the springs in place for the New Barrel.

inadvertently makes an sbr. Be aware that this barrel is 14.7 inches. Its pinned by factory because of that. Without re pinning and welding it you are making an sbr in the eyes of the atf (i dont agree with it but its true..) stay safe out there

Will the rifle work without the shroud?
@PromptCritical7256 жыл бұрын
No, not really. The shroud is what holds the barrel in the receiver. There's a spring in there as well. You could get it to fire once if you carefully assembled and loaded it, but the barrel would be free to slide back into the gun. You have to have something screwed to the barrel that goes up to the front of the receiver. On a P90 (or SBR), that's the flash hider. On a PS90, that's the shroud.
@E-Ryders2 жыл бұрын
@@PromptCritical725 So what you're saying is, you can take off the Shroud from a PS90 and a Flash Hider "could" be screwed on PS90 to function?
@PromptCritical7252 жыл бұрын
@@E-Ryders function if you mean fire a round if you carefully load it. The barrel will slide freely back and forth so it will probably jam up and do goofy shit.

@waffenmacht8 жыл бұрын
Yeah this would have to be a registered SBR.
@FloridaGunClassified8 жыл бұрын
For California as long as there is a 16" barrel to extend to 30" it can be threaded on brake.. NJ for example has to be pinned as welded All FN PS90 have pinned barrel shrouds FYI
@FloridaGunClassified8 жыл бұрын
This one is not a SBR because we kept the barrel length 16".... are you speaking of generally because the barrel is shorter the 16" and the shroud is the part that is adding the length to make is 16"?
@FloridaGunClassified8 жыл бұрын
The gun cannot be shot or operated without the shroud attached... so it cannot be taken off for example and turned into an SBR of 14" Because the shroud is needed to complete the attachment to the firearm to make it 16"
@FloridaGunClassified8 жыл бұрын
If it was just a 14" barrel and we added a 2" brake I could see where the dependency would come in, but there are many examples of barrel extensions on alot of different firearms where they are just "extensions" and are sold as rifles. i.e. IWI UZI RIFLE REPLICA 22LR is just a fake can which is attached to a short barrel in the front

This is absolutely illegal under the NFA. The rifled portion of a PS90 barrel is only 14.8" long. Rifle barrels have to be 16" long to be legal. Barrel shrouds do count as additional length, but ONLY if they are "permanently attached" via an ATF-approved method. The only two methods they have approved are by blind pinning (FN's factory method), or by brazing/welding the shroud to the barrel with at least four tack welds or a 50%+ circumferential weld. Loctite, Rocksett, and any other chemical adhesives are NOT an ATF-approved shroud attachment method. The method you demonstrate in this video results in an illegal short-barreled rifle with a 14.8" barrel and a non-permanently-attached barrel shroud. California or other state laws do not trump the federal National Firearms Act, they just mean you go to federal prison instead of state prison when you get convicted. For the sake of your customers, please modify this video with the correct information. The threaded shroud has to be permanently attached with an ATF-approved method, just like the factory shroud was. FN doesn't do that to the factory shroud for fun.
@BuffRANGE7 жыл бұрын
You know that the factory PS90 barrel is 16" right? The shroud exists to meet the OAL length by having a PINNED flash hider, not a PINNED shroud.
@paintballplayer7007 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying, but there are two ways to make an SBR. ATF doesn't care what you pin to the end of your barrel (flash hider, shroud, cage to hold a silencer like the TacSol SB-X barrel for the 10/22, etc.) to make it 16" of barrel and 26" OAL. They just care that the rifle meets both requirements. If the OAL is under 26", it doesn't matter what the barrel length is. As demonstrated in this video, even if the internal barrel is 16" long, the OAL is no longer 26", because ATF doesn't consider non-permanently attached muzzle devices to count toward OAL any more than they count toward barrel length, so far as I know. (See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnjRZ5-VqJiJicU)

paintballplayer700 sorry dude. I went down stairs took out my factory ps90 barrel and guess what it's 16.05". It's 18.5" with the pinned flash hider. I don't know who taught you how to measure but you're wrong.

@paintballplayer7007 жыл бұрын
Read my edited reply above, I think I was adding info while you were taking these pics. I didn't measure one myself, I had read some sources on FNForum that said the barrel was 14.8". Nonetheless, that does not stop this from being an illegal SBR. The OAL with a non-pinned shroud still comes in under 26" which would make it an SBR regardless of the barrel length. Perhaps the makers of the shroud have some ATF ruling or tech branch letter to the contrary that I'm not aware of, but ATF is fickle and that would only cover one single model of replacement shroud.
