Replacing the Gear Shift Light in 2008-2012 Ford Escape

You are a special guy. My gear shift has been dark for 7 years. I hated it, always looking to see what gear the car is in. Now, it is bright, clear, and very pleasing to my eyes. A bit dramatic, but very thankful to you. God bless you.

Thanks to you, I was able to replace the bulb in my mom's 2011 Ford Escape. I couldn't find any info in the owner's manual so I called the dealership to see if there is actually a bulb to replace. They told me no. But then a year later I asked MY mechanic and he pulled up your video and I said "I KNEW there had to be a bulb". She is so thankful to not have to turn on her overhead light when she has to back up. The only issue was the bulb I pulled said it was 12V 2W, the 2171 is 12V 1.2W- not sure what the correct bulb is with higher wattage, but at least she can see it. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the video. I have spent the past 5 years with no light on my console for my 2008 Mercury Mariner. Since the Escape and Mariner are basically the same car, I took a chance and changed out my light this afternoon. Took minutes and cost $6.32 for the new bulb. Funny that none of this us mentioned in the owner's manual for the car. I am so pleased that my gears are now illuminated. Thank you.

Even though it was several years ago, this was still helpful. Thank you. My car is an 07 Fusion. If anyone’s looking for that particular bulb, the AutoZone part number is…2721LL for long life I assume. Took me a couple tries to find the right one.

Thanks for posting this. I have a 2012 that has a flaky bulb (comes back on if you give the console a good whack) and needs fixed. The only addition I have is the recommendation to add some dialetric grease to the bulb contacts. More important with exterior bulbs though.

Thanks for the great video Aaron. I just removed the bulb in my 2012 Ford Escape. It wasn’t quite as easy to pry off the console as it was in your Escape, but it worked. Hopefully O’Reilly will have the bulb.

@@isaac24 The radio in the video I did myself, it is a Jensen VX7020, although I have since upgraded to this radio: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHeun3tsp8Zmq68 And yes, this is the XLT. I don't know what tinted windows have to do with the XLT, although an XLT is six cylinders as opposed to four.
