I told myself right from the start of the video that was the idler. But you then made me second guess because you showed us the water pump pulley. I’m glad I was right on my assumption. As well as I’m sure your glad the water pump pulley isn’t wobbling around anymore.

Doing same job in reverse. Changed right side idler pulley, steak gone for three days. Then squeak returned and changed tensioner pulley squeak gone for two days. These idler pulleys were toast. Now squeak back and I found fan vibration. Changing pump this weekend. Yikes! Thanks for video. I can get ‘er done.

Not much movement in the fan or pully. But the fan and pully are crooked as hell. Could the water pump still be bad? 2003 Chevy trailblazer. Got these pictures.

Couldn't you take out the cross member bolts and pull it forwards to get the Fan Shroud past the radiator connector nasal? I'm getting ready to do this job myself on a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. The Fan Clutch went bad so i'm going to replace the Fan Clutch and Water Pump at the same time. Right now i'm watching all the video's on how to do this job. Like your Video!! Tell me if you think that would work or not?

Good info, Thanks. I have an 03 Bravada and replaced the AC clutch bearing, which by the way seemed impossible to identify what bearing to use, but finally found the right one. Replacing the AC bearing is an entirely different story, but that way I did not need to have a shop drain the AC system, replace AC parts, etc. I loosened the crossmember bolts and I was able to remove the fan shroud without cutting the shroud. A lot of people simply replace the tensioner and that pully anyway once you have everything open, assuming you have no idea how old the existing one is. If you don't do that you can release the belt and hand turn the AC, pulleys, etc and usually you can hear a noise or feel the bearing is dragging. So that means it needs to be replaced.

Why does the fan blade itself have a ring/shroud around it? I've been wondering this shit for years, the Chevy trucks have the same similar fan blade without the ring.
@NORCALPYRO_3 жыл бұрын
Do i have to unplug the battery or is it just a precaution
@TheDaninator3 жыл бұрын
Unplugging the battery is good insurance that nothing electrical goes screwy when you're unplugging connectors or working around unplugged connectors.

The LEADING CAUSE of water pump FAILURE is the design of the fan clutch, it's WAY TOO HEAVY and it CAUSES bearing FAILURE. my 97 Silverado fan clutch will fit the water pump pump but the check engine light will come on due to the fact the trailblazer is wired from the factory.
@mikeroberts56464 жыл бұрын
Everyone makes this common mistake,does anyone realize that the Radiator is clamped down on top with 2 13mm bolts and 2 bolts going horizontally through the plastic bracket can’t remember what size but they’re small,after getting the bracket off just simply bend the Radiator towards the front and easily slide out your fanshroud ,making sure you to take the trans lines off your shroud, As a side note,a Waterpump will never squeak as the bearing is always lubricated by the cooling,looks like even though that wasnt the problem the waterpump was on its final days,99 % of the time the squeak is the Idler or tensioner pulley,both should be replaced at the same time,sometimes you can get a squeaky Alternator ,that’s usually also right before it dies
