How To Remove Rust Stains From Concrete Pavers Using CLR

I use CLR (Calcium Lime Rust) to remove or dissolve rust stains left by my fire tables on my new concrete pavers. You do not need to scrub any of the rust. Simply let the CLR do the work by allowing it to sit for 30-40 minutes and rinse away the rest.

I found years ago a solution of Alkaline salts. Recommended for rust stains and grease. I can't find where to get it now! It was great! I have to get CLR.

You can add plastic table leg caps to prevent the rust from hitting the pavers.

Hi, i have rust over concrete pavers that sit on pedestals on a roof terrace. Can CLR damage the roof membrane? I can apply on pavers but when washing it off the product will fall over the membrane. And even before washing it off, CLR can spill over the membrane when applied over the paver.

Wow, I was going to attempt to remove rust like that on unsealed rough granite steps. The steps are brand new but in a few months the rust came down the iron fence. CLR package states that it’s product may discolor the stone. Did you have any discoloration once dry?

I just tried this on my Nicoloc pavers that were just put down about two weeks ago. And it looks like it burned them and left a white mark. It also foamed the second it made contact with the paver which I do t see happen for you. Thoughts?

I spilled a ton of motor oil on my drievway. Here's what I did... used lots of carburetor cleaner on the stain, then spread kitty litter on in. Then I stepped on it with my foot to squish and compress the kitty litter into the concrete. Did that every 2 or 3 hours for the first day. After the third day, I swept it up and it was GONE! Try it.

It did mine. Caused like wet spots where I applied so now it looks like I spilt grease or some thing on areas. Dunno what type of paver this guys has but mine like fizzed when it touched it. These are high end non sealed pavers. Never again!

I'd be cautious in using CLR on different colored pavers, such as Mexican terracotta-colored pavers and the like. It could be a costly mistake to replace payers that are kind of bleached of their color with the use of CLR. Even with cement, it's possible to end up with a bleached white spot on your concrete that might stand out like a sore thumb. Don't misunderstand me. I do like CLR - just be aware.

@@tombanes I'm not really sure how to advise you on granite steps. I have a second small property out in Palm Springs that is basically a cement pad where I keep a "tiny home" in a gated community. I have some staining on the cement pad which looks exactly like what you see in the video. I think I'm going to rent a Power Washer from Home Depot or hire a Power Washer, and hopefully, that'll do the trick of taking off the stain. On granite, probably a Power Wash will work, too. Be careful when using chemicals. Best of luck!

Don't use CLR before you test whether it marks the paver. I didn't and now I'm left with unsightly dark marks on t he pavers.

Made it worse for me... but it's my own mistake. I left the CLR too long (like over an hour as I was interrupted and had to do something else, now instead of small little rust spots I have much bigger circles all over... pretty unhappy with that. So anyone doing this be warned... rince within 15 minutes and rince often. If anyone has advice for me to clean out those CLR Stains... I am all ears.
