Years ago, I saw 5 different doctors before being diagnosed with shingles on my scalp and near my eye. It was very painful and hurt to barely touch my head, let alone comb or brush my hair. I'm an RN and thought it could be shingles based on the pain and one-sided-ness, but the docs said well, it might be shingles but we don't want to treat you for that. Once I finally did get treatment, it healed fairly quickly. Thanks for spreading the word on this, Dr. Dray!

What was the treatment for scalp shingles ?
@slimjimjimslim5923
@slimjimjimslim5923 28 күн бұрын
@@ginah8023 Antiviral pill Acyclovir/Valacyclovir/Famciclovir , same pill as Herpes Simplex 1 and Herpes Simplex 2 since shingle is caused by a similar virus called Herpes Zoster. All these herpes virus are permanent, there's no way to remove them from your body, you can only suppress them with antiviral but they are harmless since they only erupted occasionally and does no damage unless they become infected. FYI 1/6 people on earth has HSV2, 1/2 has HSV1, and 1/3 has shingle virus. So it's not a big deal but it's annoying lol

My scalp culture revealed that I do actually have acne on my scalp. I’ve been dealing with it for over a year now, and it’s just awful. I’ve got an allergy to propolis, so my derm has advised me to avoid all fragrance ingredients, which severely limits my options for topical treatments. I used Neutrogena salicylic acid shampoo for about 6 months because it was the only medicated shampoo I could find that didn’t have ingredients I’m supposed to avoid. But it didn’t do much. We decided to try a ketoconazole shampoo, which I have to have compounded in order to get it without fragrance-it’s $90 for 4oz! I used it every day for a month and felt like it helped some, but I’m trying to decide if I want to pay for another bottle. Now I’m on oral spironolactone, went back on hormonal birth control, and even got my hair cut very short. I’m so frustrated and miserable 😩 I really hope things start clearing up soon.

That's wild. My spouse has a prescription ketoconazole shampoo that has no fragrance, and it cost under 10 dollars with our insurance. I also have allergies [including to propolis], so I currently keep my head shaved and rotate between Neutrogena Stubborn Body Acne body wash (1% salicylic acid + PHA), PanOxyl Acne Treatment Bar (10% benzoyl peroxide), and DermaHarmony Zinc Therapy Soap (2% zinc pyrithione) [I use the same things on my face to deal with the same issue]. My dermatologist also recently recommended hypochlorous acid (HOCl) spray, so I've been using that too. I've been planning on growing my hair out, so we'll see how easy that routine is to keep up with.

I had 6-7 folliculitis bump/pimples when I started swimming and wearing a swim cap. To complicate it (or maybe actually caused it), I took a cycling class and afterward, I would rinse off, and then put on my suit, and put on a pre-swim conditioner and then the silicone swim hat. With in a few days, I had folliculitis. It took around 2 weeks to heal. Just washing with shampoo after the cycling class and before putting on the pre treatment and swim hat, took care of it. The skin issues with 3-4 days of indoor swimming is a challenge. I use Amlactin after swimming and that seems to help with the dryness from the water and pool chemicals.

I have struggled with this for many years. I’ve been to two different derms, been prescribed topical steroids, oral antibiotics & even a course of isotretinoin. The isotretinoin worked best & longest, but it still comes back. My last derm actually told me to use benzoyl peroxide if a small bout comes back, and when used consistently, has worked for me. I also notice when I sleep well & eat better, it starts to go down, so I imagine there’s some inflammation as well. Thank you so much for the vid! I’ll try the betadine, as the benzoyl peroxide seems to be slowly lightening my hair 😅, but in my opinion, it’s worth it for no itching.

Hi Dr. Dray, Thank you! so much for this video. I have had problems with my scalp for 6 years and when I went to see a dermatologist that first year he told me it was a little acne in my scalp and gave me a prescription to dab a medicine on the bumps. Well every time I used it it really burned so I went back and another doctor told me the same thing I just have pimples on the scalp and to keep my scalp clean and to stop that medicine, I think they just brushed me off. We’ll, I have been homebound now for 4 years my scalp still is acting up and now I can’t even get to another dermatologist so this video I really appreciate because I thought I was going crazy. I do use Nizoral once a week then volumizing shampoos the rest of times. I am going to try the T gel next and get that Betadine and try that since I can’t get to a doctor. Again thank you so much for this video. If I am missing anything please advise. Blessings to you Dr Dray!

I heard Folliculitis caused by different things, like if fungal then Ketoconazole works better, if bacteria then salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide works better. And also Doxycycline is good for bacterial skin acne but also can cause fungal issues since it's kills off bacteria population and the fungal on your skin might suddenly have no competition and start over populating.

During the medication period I have no scalp acne at all. I can use any conditioner. However after a year on the medication my liver reading went up really high. My doctor advised me to stop taking isotretinoin. And now my scalp constantly get irritation with the scalp acne. And it causes my hair loss. 😞. I managed to get the T/sal two weeks ago and it helps to calm the acne down. Apart from the shampoo. I have apply salicylic acid and glycolic acid at night as well as differin. I helps to control it but if I slack off on it the acne will come back. It’s an on going battle. 😢

Theres a Scandinavian YTer with hair down to her knees who divulged that her first "shampoo" on the day she washes her hair is.standard sulpher soap (intended for the face) in bar form. She also added that she had done this since the age of 15. Considering she's in her 30s now and has an impressive head of hair and very beautiful hair it seems to have worked for her. The knack seems to be lathering the scalp not the ends. Plus she follows up with several more regular shampoos before conditioning and oiling the ends. Quite the palaver. Re conditioning and oil treatments and run this past Dr Dray skip slopping that on yr scalp. Works perfectly from below yr ears to the ends. I've found that HA serum, spraying in a leave in conditioner and a couple drops of rosehipseed oil on just the last four inches of hair keeps the length untangled- i can sit on my hair. Try not to sweat and.blot as much up as you can if that happens and you are out, wash or at least rinse the scalp asap.
