How To Remove Steering Column SAAB 9-3 2003-2011

If you want to remove the steering column & steering shaft joint, this video will help. The steering shaft joint was seized up, which can cause stiffness on the steering. Bad CIM module SAAB 9-3 2007 convertible was stored during winter. Do not forget to disconnect the car battery to avoid CIM problems.

Hi ! im trying to replace the steering module , i have undone the allen bolt but it will not release from collumn ? does the bolt have to come out of the module before it will come off ? its loose but cannot get it off ! thank you !!!

I have saab 9-3 petrol 2008 , vector after battery change ,facing a problem , sometime can't start the car , sometime block gear lever, not always , having message ( steering malfunction contact saab ) ,can u suggest any solution ,thanks

Since the problem is intermittent, I suggest you to replace the ISM (ignition switch module) that doesn't need programming. If the problem is not solved, you have to replace SCL (steering lock module). It has to be programmed.

Thanks for your quick response, Ism is already changed , (second hand ) ,But problem remains as it is ,,, last scan with diagnostic tool read error ( B144O..Power mode master input circuits mismatch) ,steering remains unlock ,, during turning off switch (ism) ,main headlights turn on for one mili second. Just blink ,,somebody says that need to change ( CIM ) under steering,,today i visit X-saab, they suspect 90 percent about Ism,its really confusing situation

Hi Saab Pal!!! I'm into some plans for a kit car project, and the plans contain an idea of using a Saab 9-3 2.8 Turbo V6 engine to power it... To be sure it is possible, I should need to know if there is pace enough for this engine inside the engine bay of the kit car. I dont have access to any 9-3 with this engine option at the moment, so I hoped to find someone that have a 9-3 with a 2.8t in it. So my questions is... Do you have any 9-3 with 2.8t in it, and if so, could I please ask you if you was able to measure the length from the center of the inner drive shaft joint and forward to the very moust front point of the engine/gearbox? The kit car I'm planing to build has a rear engine setup, so I have to know if there is enough space for get the engine ligned up with the innder driver joint lighed up with the center of the rear wheelc and the front of the engine have clearence to the rear wall of the cabin. the length from the center of the inner drive shaft joint and forward to the very most front point of the engine/gearbox is 18.5 inches (SAAB 9-3 2.8L Turbo V6 2007 FWD).

Can you adopt used steering wheel lock after removing old one ? As do you know what the process to program it ?

Yes, you can. If the part number is the same, you will need TECH 2 & TIS software for programming.
