I usually use vegetable oil, it works well and it's usually around the house anyways. It does leave it a bit greasy, but a quick wipe down with kitchen paper (And soap out you use some cheaper oils) will remove that problem. Should be safe on leathers without risking removing the coloring as well.

Use an eraser to rub out the main sticky residue from the surface. Then mix a solution of bicarbonate soda and water. Dip the solution with a cotton earbud and gently scrub out the residue eraser remains. Rinse the surface with water and wipe clean with tissues/cloth.

Tried your method on a a huge sticker on the plastic cover slapped on the consumer unit in my Garden Office when the electrics were tested by the local council "busybodies" 5 years ago ... After another test last month (apparently, it has to be done every five years) the guy slapped another compliance sticker on the main house consumer unit, but told me that another sticker on the Consumer Unit in my Garden Office was not required. The 5 year old sticker was ugly and detracted from the translucent blue original cover. I tried Rubbing Alcohol, which I already had, on a Plenty kitchen roll and it removed some of the print ... I then used White Spirit and the sticker almost fell off on it's own accord! Was it a combination of Rubbing Alcohol and White Spirit .... Dunno ... but White Spirit is so much cheaper in the UK (£1 a bottle from Poundland) ... But may I thank you for the inspiration to get rid of an annoying eyesore.

As if nothing was there before. And as said everyone seams to have this in the cupboard….🤓

I use Contact Cement Solvent. It has never harmed any plastic surface. Brush it right onto the label gently with a tooth brush. Wait 2 minutes and peel off from the underside with a utility knife blade at a very acute angle. There is almost no resistance when you lift up the label or glue mess. It's like removing paper held onto a surface with a film of water. If any glue remains use the blade again to lift it off. Test it on any surface you intend to work on with a small amount to see if it damages it. It even works on painted plastic without any harm.

No, rubbing alcohol does NOT work, at least not on the modern polymer adhesives used to glue labels on plastic bottles. And vegetable oil only works to the extent of making it (very) slightly easier to scrape the adhesive off. Even commercial products like Goof Off only work if you use a huge amount of them. I'm still looking for a way to remove modern adhesive that isn't extraordinarily slow and difficult.

Alcohol works and is safe to use on most plastic (except acrylic). Problem is that alcohol is taxed and not freely sold here. I found only a "disinfectant" solution (70% isopropanol) and it cost 5 euros per 750 ml. I did not buy it cos I hate to pay drinking tax for this. WD-40 works, but it gets into cracks and openings, leaves grease and smell and may expand rubber, as used in keyboards. So I would be hesitant to use it on an appliance. It is the only solution known to me for use on acrylic. Flexible plastic is likely polyethylene or polypropylene. Those are resistant to Acetone, which works very well. The plastic could also be vinyl, which, as well as all hard plastics, melts in acetone. Acetone will strip and smear most paint. You can search for "chemical compatibility" together with the chosen solvent and type of plastic, which is sometimes printed on the item.

WD40 is a good option. Moreover the oil residue is less compared to any other oil application, so wiping out the remaining oil residue is easy. I tried on a lamination sheet on wood which had a small label sticker tag which was already half removed with stubborn residual glue. Since I was skeptical about applying an alcohol rub, I tried this and it worked out great and smooth with less effort.

Label/glue residues and a couple off other things can easily be removed with an eraser and it will not damage or scratch the surface at all. If you use a colored eraser it can color the surface a bit especially wood but a white eraser and nothing happens at all. The "older" orange/brown/red eraser that have two angled ends is often a little harder then the never and now more common erasers and therfore have a bit higher chance (but still relatively small) to scratch the surface. I do recommend one of the regular cheap white rectangular block erasers you can buy everywhere.

Very useful video. Many Thanx. Used it as a kid in the late fifties to wipe on the soles of our feet and toes to harden the skin when preparing to go hiking. This was done days before as preparation for trekking adventures. It inhibited formation of blisters that harder skin wouldn't get so much when trekking for several days during Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme's youth hiking and camping expeditions over rough terrain in the UK. Frequent hiking, in any case, acclimatised the feet and they hardened naturally as to not require frequent use of the Surgical Spirit. Of course, always seek appropriate advice when using in way I describe. Cigarette lighter petroleum fuel from those 'little squirty cans' can sometimes do the job too. Not all 'sticky label glue' is the same - and may require other methods. I came to this vid because I couldn't remove 'sticky label residue' with either white spirit, cigarette lighter petroleum fluid or paint thinners (acetone). Will return later to tell you if Surgical Spirit worked when I have bought and tried it.
