I just saw you today at the shop, thanks again for pointing me in the direction of this video. I’m definitely going to be referencing this when I replace the battery on my FXDR

@@DrHarley This has been one of the more in-depth videos I’ve found about taking the battery out. The way you explained it though with the lips that keep pressure on the battery definitely helped out a lot more though!

That's the goal. So everyone can work on there own bikes.

Thanks so much! I had to look forever to find someone who explained this well! Great video!

I actually found another video which helped me get the battery out of my Low Rider (same setup as this bike). You can get the negative connection with a Phillips screwdriver on the right sideof the mono shock, pop the two clips and remove the housing around the battery and access the positive cable on the left side of the mono shock.

Awesome. Thanks for that tip.

Good investigating, there is a easier way. I have a 2020 Fatboy FLFBS114. I removed me seats, Removed both side covers, that little plastic cover. Then removed negative cable and just rerouted the wiring. Pulled dipstick, put a rag in it. Released the 2 snaps for the battery cover from the right side. Went to the other side used long screwdriver to make sure that latch released. Pull out the battery holder. Disconnect Positive pull out the battery. putting back hook the snap you released from left side 1st. then the other 2. I pull mine every winter.

Awesome. Thank you for the tip. There is always more than one way to do things. And be correct.

Hey Doc, are you able to access the positve connection from the left side cover? I figure itll be off anyway to pull the main fuse. And really dont like the idea of sticking a tool down between the frame rails and rear spring to remove the positive. Fried my hand as a dumb kid on a car battery that way.
@DrHarley10 ай бұрын
Believe it or not. No you cannot access the positive terminal from the left side. That's unfortunate.

Same here. I’m going to put some heat shrink on my 1/4” drive extension to be safe.

What type of battery do you recommend to use to replace the manufacturer battery. Thank u for the video as well

Believe it or not. I always get the Harley battery. I find them to last longer and cheaper than any one around here.

As far as I know trickle chargers monitor the charge and keep it up. It’s actually better than putting your battery in the closet for months. If you lost battery cranking amps due to this you perhaps had a cheap battery or a problematic battery. Or your trickle charger was Chinese junk. Any who. Good job getting the battery out.
@DrHarley Жыл бұрын
I remove my batteries when I store my bikes and keep them on the trickle charger and I get around 5 years out of my batteries..
@pmh1nic11 ай бұрын
Can you access the battery terminals without having to remove the battery?
@DrHarley11 ай бұрын
Yes. To access the positive you can get to it from under the seat. You just have to be careful not to touch the frame with your tool while removing the positive cable.

Anyone by chance have a part number to the inner battery plastic cover that needs to come out after the metal cover?
@DrHarley28 күн бұрын
No I don't. However if you go to harkeys website. Under parts to the OEM section. You can find it there.

@@DrHarley I am so sorry, I now realise I posted my question to the wrong channel. I was referring to the light on the Harley Davidson 800ma Dual Mode Battery Tender800mA charger. The bike (2020 Harley Heritage Soft Tail) is 3 yrs old and I have always used the battery tender until 1 month ago when the bike was left for a month without being used or charged. The bike is now dead it seems with no signs of life except for the red flashing light. It's not with me at the moment so my friend has hooked up the charger but can't check the voltage (long story), so just hoping you knew why the amber light will flash between amber and green?
@DrHarley Жыл бұрын
The amber sight should be charging.

@DrHarley I just replaced my battery last week on a,similar soft tail and realized if I drop a side panel screw I'm in deep trouble. I had to take mine in and out twice and this is not a simple job...Harley engineers are assholes.

Making it so you have to shell out $$ to do even the most basic stuff. Why I hate Harley. Nice bikes. Very bad greed and lack of customer QOL.

The only event that cost extra was the music at Veterans park. Everything else was at no charge. Even parking.
