This is extremely helpful, especially as a beginner who didn't know how to do the stitch when I started but figured it out as I went. PS--for any other beginners on a project with a stitch other than what she uses in the video, who are like me and don't know how to find the "beginning" of the stitch: put in the lifeline in multiple places. I ended up with two different lifelines in two different pieces of the stitch because I didn't know which was correct, so if the first one was wrong and didn't actually hold the stitches, the second one would still hold them and I wouldn't lose the project.

I had the beginning 20 rows of a graphgan that needed to be removed and a correct beginning 20 rows reattached. That being said, your calm easy explanation motivated to try. I got the scary cutting part then I started a snip. The rest literally pulled out. I actually frogged the bottom 20 rows! Awesome 😍 Thank you AGAIN ❤

Spent more than a week of my annual leave getting to the midpoint of a ridged blanket I was crocheting for my other half's granny, when I managed to pull out the first few stitches of my work... grrrr! Annoyed doesn't cover it. Just found your video. A life saver with the life line! I made a baby blanket for my friend, spent weeks on it, then realized the last 5 rows had an extra stitch 🤦🏻‍♀️ I actually needed the yarn I was taking off, so I followed my stitches, just cut one chain, and then it unraveled easily. Glad you showed that you should slip stitch it afterwards. I’m adding a boarder, so I can hide this surgery 😂

I am forever grateful to you for this tutorial. I just completed an adult poncho, before realizing that I started it with the number of stitches for a child size poncho. The pattern uses repeated rows of double crochet in the round, with increases in the center stitch of the front and back to form triangular tips. The poncho “grows” very gradually, from top to bottom. I needed to remove five rows from the top to enlarge the neckline. Your method actually created a more well-defined edge than the original foundation row. Thanks to you, I did not have to start over-ten days before it will be presented as a birthday gift. 😊

I am making 6-day snowflake blanket. At the end, I decided to have only 2 rows of white for the ends, but the beginning was 9 rows. I have spent 3 days ripping out from the bottom, only got the chain and foundation row out, I almost cut it last night. I thought "internet" ...thank goodness, running a thread first!!! I am in California and just made a blanket then realized that I had begun with loose stitches that tightened up as I progressed, which has led to me needing to remove the first 6 inches. I will remove that portion and just unravel it and add it back on to the top, but removing the bottom and not losing my base chain stitches has scared the dickens out of me! Thank you for the video... Saved my lovely shirt from being HUGE! (Calad Shirt that I fudged ended up a bit too wide.) BUT... I wanted a longer end to sew in with less risk of loosing the first stitch, so I cut the 4th stitch from the end and unpicked those 4 out. The other end of the stitch that I cut, much to my delight and surprise, unzippered like a normal chain stitch would! No mess, no garbage can needed! (I got lucky, I know... over 200 stitches and I might have started from the other end and that wouldn't have unzippered. But now that I know it will/can... if one end doesn't unzip the other end of the row will! :-) Knitter tip: Use your knitting needles instead of needle and thread to pick up the stitches. Also doing a sewn BO in a knitterly way so having the stitches on a knitting needle is handy.

Hi Suzanne! It can still be done, but it will indeed be tricky. You'll want to run the lifeline as usual, but then you're going to have to really take your time putting in the new foundation chain to secure the bottom of the new Row 1. First, go back and look at how the first row 1 was worked into the chain. See if there are "empty" chains you'll want to work in between the bases of the stitches - chains that were originally skipped in Row 1. When you've got several stitches that were all worked into one chain, then you'll need to be sure to catch the bottom of all those stitches when you make that chain. Does that make sense? If it's a charted pattern, that will be a big help!

Oh gosh! That will surely be tricky. You could try cutting it without running a lifeline first and just pulling out the stitches VERY carefully - this will be a bit easier if the yarn is wooly or textured so it doesn't pull out toooo easily. Eventually you'll get a bottom of a row cleared and then you can try running in a lifeline. Then pull out however much more you want, and sew the top of the new last row into the bottoms of the new first row. But it would be tricky to be sure!

I tried picking out the stitches instead of cutting, since I was only removing 1 row of 18 sc (plus the foundation chain). What a chore! Now I see why the instructions said to just cut it! For this particular project, I stand by my choice - one row, at a small gauge, would’ve been tough to cut accurately. But for more rows, or even if it was much wider, cutting is definitely the right call!

1:32 Wow! This is an amazing find. I have been sitting here heart-broken after finishing a very large blanket (all but the border) which has many different color changes with different stitches in it. I had purchased a very expensive kit online and finally got around to starting it after waiting over 3 years. Then realized how the width at the bottom was way too wide; I had already ripped it out once after about 15 rows, but now it’s basically done. It is not straight - but only near the beginning rows. It’s a lot of stitches across but at least it may be possible to fix and I will have learned something very USEFUL! I will be pretty scared to use those scissors but I have to try! You are a genius! Thank You!

If I have gaps in the stitches, such as for “skip the next 2 stiches”, do I pick them up in the life line?

You just need to capture the stitches you want to keep. But when you work back into the bottom of those stitches to make a chain or to sew on a new section, you'll want to remember to ch2 or skip 2 as needed then!
