After examining closely the drawings associated with the Lucas N1 Magneto "Condensectomy" the only thing different after all that effort was that the earth had been disconnected. I removed the earth screw then used a Dremel with a cut-off disc and removed the earth tab, ground down carefully between the brass end piece and the capacitor to remove the remnants of the earth tab, and the brass "button" on the side of the capacitor and made sure that there was no connection between the capacitor and brass end piece and that was it. PS place a piece of masking tape on the bobbin to protect from accidental damage while grinding. The cut-off disc will be on slight angle but it is very easy to do with care. Blow the bobbin with compressed air to remove any dust etc.

Very interesting, mine will be arriving shortly and it`s a big question mark at the moment. When using any kind of a puller it usually helps if having tightened it to a fair degree you then tap the end of the mandrel with a hammer. This should move the bearing along a parallel shaft a bit or in the case of a taper jump the item off said taper.

So the video is the opposite of what the title says. You dont show how to remove the capacitor.

Ok call it remove capacitance or disconnect the capacitor if you prefer. The point is that it's how you get to it. You don't need to physically remove it, just its influence.

@@MotorClassics so did you remove the capacitor earth terminal , and put some heat shrink on the wire , did you refit the screw for balance , also as someone mentioned if you are only going to snip that earth wire , you dont need to remove that bearing inner from hell . Cheers .

i had my magneto rebuilt with an easy cap fitted and my A10 starts first kick reccomend

Its a long time since I fiddled with that but I installed an easy cap and it didn't work too well. It depends on the condition of the varnish on the windings really; mine just wern't good enough.

So why take the bearing from hell & the slip ring off then off then......have I missed something.... thanks great vid
@MotorClassics8 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes you have; you can't get it apart to remove the capacitor without removing the bearing. The screw heads are on the bearing side which is annoying.

But it looks possible to leave cap where it is but disconnect the earth maybe ..... cheers
