How To Remove the Chime Module On A 1995-1998 GMC/Chevy C/K 1500

I bought this 1998 Chevy Silverado and the door open chime is just annoying so in today’s video I removed the chime box.

My chime just started chiming all the time. Mechanic slammed it & it quit. Had to do that for 2 days but the window began coming partially off track & the vent visor began separating from the constant slamming. Tried spraying WD-40 & Breakaway up in the door. Would work for an hour or 2. Drove home last evening in the rain from camping & had to listen to it for 55 minutes. Thanks for posting, my sanity is restored.

@@bossadamsgarage I have a new issue, I unplugged it & enjoyed the peace & quiet while driving yesterday, but tonite, I realized all 5 domelights in my 1998 Suburban are illuminated all the time. I reinstalled the chime box when I arrived at our campsite, but the lights all stay on. I cannot shut them off so I guess I'll have a dead battery in the morning. Anyone have any ideas? The Suburban has 5 dome lights, 1 between the front seats, 1 over the 3rd seat, 1 under the dash on each side in front & 1 under the center dash.

So with that situation the chime box will not effect the lights at all. There were times after I first removed the chime box where I forgot to turn off my lights because they are not automatic and my battery died as well. This was due to no chime happening when I opened the door lol (cost of peace I guess). That might be your issue as well. If not one of the switches that activates the automatic dome lights could be messed up/sticking causing them to stay on. For that you'll have to go to each switch (should be 3 total, possibly 6 on your suburban) and check each one.

I agree the chime is not a pleasant one to listen to.... I actually bought my truck with the chime missing. When I let my Mom drive my truck during the day she had the headlamps on because of the rain, she was so use to hearing the chime on her vehicle when exiting letting you know you were leaving the headlamps on, So my Mom was stuck at the train station parking lot at midnight with my truck having a dead battery. When other people are driving your vehicle you need to tell them about the warning chime is missing, and even then I'm sure it will keep happening lol.... I'm sure there are many others having the same and similar situation that I had.... perhaps if the chime was more pleasant sounding like my 17 Subaru people won't be disconnecting it.

You can do that, but then your dome lights don't come on when you open the door at night. This fix is so that you can still have the functionality of the dome lights but without the annoying buzzer.

I took mine out today to stop the door - Key buzzer but now I find it has a 7 pin connection I would really like a wiring diagram to determine if I can just bypass the Door -Key issue with a jumper wire on the harness. Have you ever found a detailed diagram?

I have never found a diagram that shows what you're looking for. Some ppl that work on these trucks often might be able to tell you how to bypass it, but I do not know how to do such.

I'll be honest, I haved tested the other relays. There doesn't seem to be a diagram of these relays on the web either but if someone has a diagram or knows where to find one please post becuase I am curious as well!

@@bossadamsgarageI have found out the two different relays that go there off some Google pics. 4 pin relay which would be EP29 after oem pn cross or the 3 pin relay which is EP28 after oem pn cross. Idk why the guy before me removed the flasher relay there but it caused a lot of confusion. I did find wiring diagrams of them but they seem to be different for each vehicle they’re in. I’ll see if I can find any of the forum links and post them here. Thanks!

I have a 93 Ford E150 van. As soon as I open my door the alarm goes off and when I close it it goes off. DON'T have to have to key in it. How do I disconnect it...?

I have never looked over one of those cars before but I could only assume it would be close to the same process as what I went through. On the older vehicles (some) there are chime boxes attached to a board under the dash. Other older vehicles might have a white plug or black plug also under the dash that you could disconnect to try and isolate which wire is causing the chime. If the chime stops when the plug is unplugged an your car runs like normal, problem solved. If the car doesn't run like normal, you will have to isolate which wire is causing the chime (more than likely in the manual) and see if you can splice a switch into it or just disconnect that wire all together. Hopefully this helps you out!

You also may leave your lights and key in the switch and drain your battery . The previous owner removed it and I am putting it back in ! .

Any idea on a 1994 gmc c1500. That module is not on the same panel in my truck nor a place for one. I only have 1x turn signal relay (square & tall) , one multi-purpose relay (short and square/cube) and a flasher module (short, chrome & round) … since my chime went off, I have no ‘headlight left on warning’, no key in ignition cylinder, and if it also is suppose to buzz when seat belts are not locked in after truck cranked…. Well that part never worked….. I have no idea where this “buzzer/chime” thing is on my truck or if it even has what other show in there 95, 97, 93… Chevy or gmc etc.. I’ve been searching but, no one seems to have any info on this for a 1994 GMC Sierra C1500.. Ext Cab, SLE, 2WD, 5.7L Gas Engine. All help would be appreciated

I'll need to do some research on those models. It might be that a particular wire controls that chime and it has to be cut to stop the noise.

If it is the same truck, then you need one of those chime boxes to insert under the dash. I took mine out because I didn't want the noise but if you want the noise, you just have to buy a replacement and insert it where I removed mine.

@@chief9161 a lot of guys swap it out for an early 90s camaro chime, I opt for a late 80s corvette. Both are direct swap.

Yep. The chime box also helps with that as well. So, if you remove it, don't accidently forget to turn your lights off.

​@@bossadamsgarage I've had my '99 for 22 years now and it's never had one on it. I suppose the previous owner took it out. I've left my headlights on a couple times because of it. But only recently they stayed on all day at work because it was raining when I went in and VA is a "wipers on, lights on" state. Killed my battery. So now I've ordered one to put in it. If it's too annoying I'll put a little foam over the holes and tape it on.

I am honestly not sure. I've seen on a couple forums where ppl get modified chime boxes but I personally don't know where you could get one. You could probably customize it yourself if you're savy enough and know how to use a soldering iron.

Ahh, I haven't ever had to replace that before. I'm sure its not to difficult though, given these trucks are fairly easy to work on. I'll take a look at it and see. Hopefully I can come up with an answer for you or maybe make a video on it!
