I'm actually impressed with that idea! Just a note for you and everyone else watching this. 1) DON'T use cheap or small zip tie's as they will either slip when you least expect it or the spring tension will snap them when you least expect it. The spring could suddenly expand causing it to fly away. If you happen to be in the way, you could get seriously hurt and or even lose an eye!! 2) Zip Tie's were never designed or intended to hold such a high tension. So use the largest size you can get and use extreme caution 3) Can't get in there with side cutters?? just use an old or new fine tooth hacksaw blade with some rag around it as a grip handle. Cheers

I guess you could also use pliers to hold a match and burn through the zip tie as well.

Do it the safe way and go to Amazon and buy the tool for 9 bucks. Save yourself the frustration. It's called a "door spring tool".

Good idea. Use a 1/2 bye 13 all thread bolt ,two nuts and two large washers, I used four of those zip ties. Two remove the zip ties once in place Use a soldering iron. Your basic idea is a good one.

To make it easier , use a torch to melt the ziptip , if you have issues cutting the ziptip in that small space but. Don't burn the paint job or wiring harness if one near by

This works. Just tried it. It was actually easier to put a block of wood on a floor jack and compress the spring against the bottom of the frame rail (didn't have a c clamp handy). Make sure you use 4 or 5 zip ties and make sure it's tied down evenly all the way around the spring. You'll still have to muscle it in a little with a crow bar but once it's in it's in there. :)

A decent spring compressor that turns this into an enjoyable ordeal can be had for $7.99 on amazon. I'm all for risking an eye to save a little $ most days, but for that price it isn't worth dickering with. And ya, I tried this method. My cheap ass zip ties weren't having it!
