How To Replace Third Brake Light/Cargo Light On A 88-98 GMC/Chevy C/K 1500

My cargo light wont turn on lol any help on my old one i saw that a ground wire was also connect to the old piece can that be the problem???????? Any info would help thx

Could be a bad ground, bad switch, or a short in the wire in between. You'll really just have to do a step-by-step process. I would start with the ground first, then look at the switch.

Mine won’t work, I’ve tried everything, nun will work, please help, is there a relay? Is it tied into a fuse, if so which one? I fixed wiring on it to see if it’d work but nothing can’t find a forum on it, please help because it’s driving me insane

That's a tough one right there because it could be a fuse, faulty wiring down the path, a bad ground, or the plastic plug could be burnt out. You need to find someone that can test wires local so you can see what the cause might be. Sorry I can't be more of help.

How do you turn on those white lights? Is there a button on the inside somewhere?

Ya if you look to the left of the radio inside the truck there is a switch that says cab light.

Do you need to use any gasket maker on the light? Or sealant of any kind?

I did not. It fit really flush to the top of the cab with no gaps so I did not use anything extra than what you see in the video.

I have a 98 silverado c1500 and after your video I will order one to match my led smoke tail lights also my trucks fuel pump was loud until it went out I could be wrong but is your humming when running after installing new one its very quiet it was original pump went out at 135k

That’s awesome man, glad I could help! And ya I’ve talked to a couple ppl about it and they said that’s the noise that it makes when it starts to go out but the old man i bought it from said its made that noise for a very long time and I’ve had it for 2 years now and it’s still humming. Might have to replace it and shoot a video on it.

The silver screws are stainless steel so that’s why they are on the outside.You put the non stainless on the outside so be prepared for rust.

When I turn on my cargo light, it uses the white light. When I brake the red light shows through.
