How to Remove the Door Panel on a Volvo C30

How to remove the door panel on a Volvo C30. This is a 2007 car, but you will find the same procedure through all the C30 models. A similar procedure may also apply to other Volvo models too. #volvo #volvoc30 #4diyers

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-nylon trim tool
-T25 torx driver
Procedure:
Using a nylon pry tool, remove the inner plastic portion inside the door handle behind the aluminum trim. Push the trim tool up from the bottom and pry out.
Again using the trim tool, go around the outer edge of the aluminum trim and pry upward to disconnect the clips.
Here you’re able to see the clips.
Disconnect the window switch electrical connector.
Using a T25 torx driver, remove the two screws where the door handle trim was.
With the tweeter speaker cover, this can be a bit tricky. The cover will either pop off or you’ll disconnect the clip in behind it. If you do disconnect the clip in behind, this is fine as it needs to be done to remove the door panel.
Now go around the perimeter of the door panel and disconnect the clips. Feed the trim tool between the door metal and door panel. I typically find it’s easiest to start with the corner first and work your way out. Once you have a section started, the rest should be a bit easier.
Along the window’s edge, there will be various clips that will disconnect much easier than the other clips found throughout the panel.
Push the lock down and then remove it from it’s location.
Unclip the cable for the door latch, then rotate it 90 degrees in the door handle mechanism and slide out of it’s location.
Disconnect the electrical connector for the power door lock switch.
And finally disconnect the final electrical connector for the tweeter speaker.
Here is a view on the door side, you can get a close up of the clip locations along with all the components in behind the panel. As you can see there is a clip still stuck in place up by the tweeter location, this will need to be removed and reinstalled back on the door panel.
Now a view on the backside of the panel. You can see the clip slots along the window’s edge, along with all the other clip locations. The reason for the door panel removal was trying to fix the speaker cover, but unfortunately there isn’t an easy solution for this. It’s molded to the door panel and I can’t glue a brace in behind without making a mess of the speaker mesh.
Remove any clips from the door side and reinstall back into the panel.
For installation, it’s basically in reverse of removal.
Connect the electrical connector for the door lock button.
Plug in the connector for the tweeter.
Reconnect the door latch cable, first onto the lever and then clip the cable back into place.
Push the door lock pull back into place.
And now snap the panel back into place. Make sure the clips are aligned with the holes and push them into place. Go around the perimeter of the panel, making sure it’s seated correctly.
Install the two T25 torx screws.
Clip on the aluminum trim.
Install the plastic cover behind the door handle.
And finally you’re done.

Just done this on my 2011 UK model C30 and was identical to yours. The reason I needed to remove mine was obviously somebody had been in there previously and did not line the top clips up correctly as you pointed out, so the top edge of the door card had a hump in it. Yep, not the best design. The only thing you could do is have custom plates cut with holes and just fasten them over top.

@@4DIYers So I did find a place that sold just the speaker grill, but it's like 80 dollars. I am considering removing the one from my driver's side and possibly 3D printing a new one with different design and sorting a different fastening system than the plastic weld.

Since about two months ago my car's (2008 C30) left door speaker started having some sort of plasticky noise. I'm sure it's a matter of some piece of plastic or whatever having gotten inside of the speaker assembly and is now vibrating at certain frequencies, causing the noise. This will will help me rid myself of that noise. Thanks! P.S. how lovely is it to have quite a modern car, but which was made just at brink of the coming era of cars on which you can do no work by yourself but need to absolutely visit some official service center to get ripped off? I would buy my self a Range Rover Velar, my dream car by looks, but well, I'd never. I love my C30 for the fact that I can repair more than not myself.

I’d call that a design flaw, or rather a few design flaws. Huge heavy doors, park on a slight slope, and try to keep the door open. Most anyone would naturally use their foot to push the door back open, and what's right there in the target spot? Yep, a delicate plastic mesh grill. Wives and GFs and other passengers forgiven, but holy crap what a challenge to replace. I wonder how many C30s have an uncracked passenger side grill. I think mine will have to stay cracked.

Thanks for the video! Used it today to figure out what was wrong with my door panel on securing all the way to the door. Turns out the previous mechanic did not get the clip on correctly on the window next to the door lock.

Great video! I wanted to remove the panel to check in on the weird grinding noise I get when rolling down the window, it seems like the power window mechanism is not accessible even with the door panel removed, is that correct?
