Hi been there 😂 I removed tap t bar and used a ring spanner and with a couple of light taps with a heavy hammer😂😂 Managed to do it👍👍 very good volg 👍👌

Another way is some to get some deep socket sets from 17mm onwards, remove the screw if present and head, then fit appropriate size on impact driver so much easier goes for taps aswell.

We don't have an external tap for shutting off. Only house in the street! One the plus side very low water bill, Downside is absolutely buggered if something goes wrong 😂

I've had this problem before and in hindsight I would remove the stopcock and replace like for like. If you damage the feeding pipe you can be in a whole world of pain, especially underground pipe with only a tiny accessible section above the ground. I understand that, that luxury is not always possible. Next best is to remove the stopcock place the base in a vice and use a ring spanner around the crown (remove the cross head so you can get the ring spanner on). lightly heat the crown to drive the water out of the usual fibre washer seal but not so hot as to damage the internal rubber parts.

some new stop taps are shorter than old ones . if there is no movement in the pipework it can be a pain

My stopcock has a slightly different problem. When I turn the stop cock off, it leaks out of the handle shaft slightly. No leak when it is open.

It means you use a special tool to grind the bottom of the tap. Any cracks across it allow water to pass.
