Really good video. This helped me sort out a rattle/creak coming from the rear sunroof glass on my 2020 mk2 Tiguan. Your video helped me locate the side screws located from inside hidden by the trim. It was a question of lossening and tightening a couple of them. It's obviously not identical to MK1 but the side screws are in a similar position. Thanks!

I don’t really have any plans of removing the glass again, but if I do I will make a video about it. There’s really not much more to it once the glass is out. Just take a rag with some degreaser or rubbing alcohol and get as much of the dirt and dried up grease out of the tracks as you can and then reapply new assembly grease.

The sunroof of my Tiguan 2015 got stuck and the frame got twisted.. I went to VW ; 2800$ + 6 hours labour +tx. So about 4000$. I found a used one on a part out 2014 tig, i will try this. Thanks for the video!

Thank you! Unfortunately I do not need to replace our sunshade at the moment, but if it ever goes bad I will most definitely make a video of the procedure. The process for removing the glass on the sportwagen is identical if I'm remembering correctly, then you would need to remove the "B","C", & "D" pillar trims and grab handles to drop the back of the headliner to access the sunshade to replace.

Great video!! You just skipped the part that I need, LOL!! The sunshade on my JSW came out of the track or however it's fastened, on the passenger side. Would I need to REPLACE the shade or can it be reattached?

This is a great video. Thank you for making and sharing it. I was wondering, is there a way to replace the wind deflector in the forward part of the sunroof without replacing the entire frame. The folks at my local dealership will only do a full replacement, not just the deflector.

Another great video. I have to attack this soon. By chance can you see the sunroof drains from the top once the glass is remove? I'm hoping to attack clogged drains from the top down with some long wire and compressed air.

Absolutely, they are in all four corners. I wouldn’t recommend using a wire or anything stiff like that as the hose connections pop off the sunroof fairly easy. A little bit of compressed air works pretty good, and using a little water to wash down the loose debris. I’ve seen the rear hoses shrink in length as well and pull out of the bottom connection in the corners of the trunk at the bottom of the body, so maybe give that a check as well. Easy to check on the passenger rear, remove the little storage cover on the side and use a mirror to look at the blue tubing going to the grommet. Drivers is more difficult because of the spare tire kit. Also, going under the vehicle and to the spot where it actually drain, we would snip off the tip so dirt doesn’t get clogged right there.

Great video..! Thanks for that. I was looking for this kind of video since I am experiencing a ‘cracking’ or ‘ticking’ noise coming from the panoramic roof. It’s the first one that I found which is explaining all of it. Is it also possible to adjust or align the front glass of the roof? Or is it possible that the cause of the noise is something completely different. It looks like there might be a very little slack in one of the hinges.

No problem! Yeah, the front glass procedure is basically identical. Both panels are adjustable by loosening the screws, positioning the glass as needed then tighten the screws down. Great video and well explained. i have a 2015 mk1 tiguan. I've had consistent leak in the drivers front corner of the headliner since the car was new, after having replaced drainage tubes and cleaning, it still leaks. I'm wondering if the height of the roof needs height adjustment/alignment? As the front drivers corner seems to sit a couple of mm lower than the passenger side. Any advice on front roof alignment? VW dealer has cost me a fortune on this issue to date. I can't find anything on youtube on adjustment and alignment, would appreciate some help.

Most of the time the connection at the top of the tube is not installed all the way or there is another clog. They clog very easy, and very quickly if you park under trees. There was a bulletin about applying RTV around the upper connections to seal them up so they don’t leak. To set the glass adjustment you would just loosen all six screws about 1 turn and place in t where you want it then tighten them down. Most likely not the issue though. Hope this helps! @@RedsVolkswagenRepair I dropped the headliner and the drain hose is clear and not leaking, however, in leak testing it it seems to be seeping in from the tray, three or four inches back from the drain. Any ideas? Should the glass at the front sit pretty flush with the roof body?

@@briank9058 Sounds like you may have a cracked sunroof frame. I can’t be sure though without seeing it. Water leaks are hard enough to diagnose in person, let alone over the internet lol.

Trying to do this on a 2018 q5. I can get the sunroof to open a little bit more but not back to the cross bar. Any ideas? (It doesn't have the same type of knob)

Im not sure on a Q5. Should be the same general idea though. Might just have to find a work around to gain access to them.

Absolutely. There is a total of four drain holes, one in each corner. This is the reason I removed the glass. I usually take a little compressed air and blow out the drains then clean out the bottom drain spots underneath the vehicle. Hope this helps!

Lay the glass down so that one side of the panel frame is on the inside of the sunroof framing. The other side of the panel framing will probably be sitting on top of the sunroof framing. If you apply a little bit of pressure on the sunroof framing from the inside of the vehicle, the panel framing should fall down into place on the inside of the sunroof framing. Hope this helps. Unfortunately the rear glass would need to be removed and the rear of the headliner dropped down.

I didn't this time around because my focus was cleaning the rear sunroof drains. But, when I do I just use a degreaser with a rag and wipe away as much dirt and old grease as I can and then apply new grease to the contact/glide areas of the sunroof. The correct grease can be purchased through VW/Audi/Porsche.

Does it sound like it attempts to open at all? If you are missing the sunshade completely, it sounds like somebody has been in there messing around. Wouldn’t be surprised to find something wrong with the system.

Can I ask you a question? I hava a 2009 Jetta sportwagen tdi with the pano roof identical to this Tiguan. I started listening some noise from the rear glass, specialy in the right side. I can hear it also when I close the doors. Some day something got loose and it started to go front and rear when I accelerate or brake. Then I heared when it falled down inside B pillar trim. Could it be a washer from the rear glass? Thanks a lot. Sorry for my english. Cheers from Argentina

I would try putting the rear windows half way down and then grab the glass with your hands and see if you can lift the glass up without using the electric motor. If you can, the pin that goes through the window glass and holds it to the regulator probably popped out. I would start there. Highly doubt it has anything to do with the sunroof glasses. If something came loose up there it would just fall into the sunroof tracks and stay up top.

@@argdario A few millimeters may be nothing to worry about. But if you want to see the pin that goes through the window and regulator, you will have to remove the interior door panel. I have a video that would be very similar. It’s my window switch video.
