That’s not the governer. That’s just a throttle limitation screw that limits how far your throttle can go. To remove the governer, you need to open up the engines and take out a little plastic gear along with the governer arm.

@@gamingwithalex8544 These engines are only made to withstand a certain amount of RPM's. By removing the governor screw you won't make the bike go fast enough to damage the engine but by removing the actual governor from the engine you risk ruining the valves. Unless you plan on upgrading your entire engine (valve springs etc) I wouldn't recommend removing the governor from the engine. Add a new exhaust, carb with a 0.38 jet and a high performance air filter and a torque converter and you should be good. These stock 196cc engines aren't meant to run at super high RPM's like the Predator or Tillotson engines.

@@shootinnscootin5545 I don't think that's a true statement. A stock Predator is no more capable to run at high RPM than a stock 196. Both engines will turn about the same RPM at valve float. And the quality of the Predator is no better than most 196 clones. When the governor is removed it is best to get a billet rod and flywheel for safer higher than stock RPM operation.

That's not the governor, that's the throttle stop or limiter screw. On later models it is spot welded in so you can't unscrew it. But you can bend down the metal tab that the end of the screw used to engage with the same results.

That screw is the speed stop, the governor is associated with the long arm under the engines gas tank.

My man, that is not the governor, that is the throttle screw. The governor is inside the motor and typically the throttle screw is welded on by the factory and you just grind it off or bend the tab.

Just remove the screw only. Some people cut the end off, some drill the screw away. I'd recommend watching more youtube videos about this. The screw is only there to make it safer for driver so they dont go too fast. Removing it makes you go faster and that's all

QUESTION: I cut mine off as they tack weld them now. Since I did that, it surges at full throttle almost like its not getting enough gas. Anyone have the same issues or know how to remedy ? Thank you

The surging that you're feeling is the governor kicking in now that you've removed the throttle screw to get rid of that you'd have to remove the governor and that would involve opening the cover of the motor removing the plastic governor and the arm it's not that difficult and there are videos on KZbin for how to do it but once you do it the motor will spin it much higher RPM and I can get a little bit dangerous

Its fast enough for me tooling around my property & farm fields around me. At almost 59 & still a knucklehead, figure the slower the better lol. Thanks again for the advice !

You can simply bend the tab that contacts the screw instead of cutting or grinding it off if you also run into this problem.

Doesn’t work on new 200uex bought one brand new in June of 2020 at tractor supply they put a small spot weld on the head of the throttle screw making it impossible to adjust or remove with a screwdriver have to cut screw off

@@evans_7.3 all that is, is a throttle limiter. It just causes the throttle to not be opened up all the way. You can adjust as need be, or remove it like you did. The governor is a small gear inside the crank case that causes pressure on the crank shaft when it is running. You have to open the crank case to remove it. You can do it I'm sure!

@@JAIW3 depends on which you're talking about. Removing the throttle limiting screw is not bad at all. However, puting a zip tie or something to restrict the governor is. It needs to be completely removed or you could easily destroy the engine.

I took out the governor. Watch redbeard garage if you haven't already. Put that screw back in. The governor is what makes the engine surge back down to the set rpm. 3600 I think. It literally pulls the throttle back down via an internal gear. If u want a burst of speed, pull back (to the rear)the other bar, the long bent one under the gas tank. It bypasses the gov. and gives u an idea what its like. You MUST take the side of the motor out and remove all parts. While your in there take out the oil float that kills the engine when u hit a bump too.

Yeah mine was too if you go to where the screw is and take a hammer and maybe a Flathead screw driver and can kinda jam that little metal tab down then the screw will go right past the barrier basically doing the same thing in a harder fashion.
