I have a 1960s Joe Camel lighter, I just got done doing maintenance on it, replacing the flint, cotton wadding and the wick, and now it works like new again. I found it in a thrift store a while ago, now I got something nice to light my cigarette with.

My oring on my Ronson is bad, any idea what size oring I need? I have heard it’s not really an oring but actually a flat rubber washer

I’m having a lot of trouble getting the lock back in place, could you send a picture of how the lock should go in the cap?

If by "lock" you're referring to the actuating mechanism, this video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4WmaIipfNVrf6s Knowing the lighter you're dealing with could also be helpful. You can email photos of your lighter: dependableflame.com/contact-us ✌️

Hi! I recently purchased a 1950s Omscolite Lighter, and I was wondering if you knew what fuel would work best for it? Also it is in good condition and said to be unused so would I need to replace anything?
@DependableFlame
@DependableFlame Жыл бұрын
If it has a wick then Zippo or Ronsonol liquid fuel should work fine. As for the condition, chances are you will need new flint and possibly the old, degraded flint dug out of the tube where it has turned to concrete.✌️

can i use a zippo wick or does it have to be specific to this lighter and if so where can i get one ?
@DependableFlame
@DependableFlame 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use a Zippo wick in these old Ronsons. I use old Ronson wicks when I have them, otherwise I use the IMCO wicks with the wire lead cut off.✌️ There are links to purchase them here: dependableflame.com/helpful-lighter-related-links

Not necessarily, any absorbent material will work. I use the organic cotton coil that can be purchased from Amazon: dependableflame.com/helpful-lighter-related-links There’s a link to it about halfway down that page. As an Amazon associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. I have used cut up pieces of women’s underwear in the past!✌️

i think, if you are twisting the wool (or lighter) while pulling it out, it might be a little easier to do? at least that is what physics would tell me. didn't try it so far. maybe you can try it the next time and tell me if it worked, thx.

How often do i need to replace that?
@DependableFlame

Only if the wick disappears, disintegrates or otherwise will not light properly.✌️

when would i need to replace the wadding and wick? just when the lighter won’t light up with fresh flint and fuel?

Pretty much. If the lighter works fine, it shouldn't need it.✌️

Hi, same lighter, fill screw is stuck. Any tips on how to get it to unscrew?
@DependableFlame
@DependableFlame 3 жыл бұрын
It is a major problem which has caused me to discard many, otherwise good lighters. I have heard mineral spirits will loosen them but I have not confirmed this. Seems like mineral spirits could damage paint and obviously contaminate wick and wadding so be careful.✌️

@@DependableFlame thanks for the tips! I actually got it with a screwdriver and more pressure. Now the problem is no rubber washer! But it works and I am thankful for that much. I appreciate the reply

Hello how long is a lighter filled full of gas of this type(closed tank) meant to last being using to light ciggerettes daily? Your the only guy who come to mind when google didnt have the answer lol! Cheers
@DependableFlame
@DependableFlame 2 жыл бұрын
There are a many factors at play but I would say typical for this type is about a week or so, maybe a bit longer. Zippos seem to be about 3-5 days, maybe a week. Table lighters usually get the best fuel efficiency.✌️
