How to remove unwanted tampos and decals printed on diecast cars

Welcome to my channel. Please like this video and subscribe to support my future work. In this video I will show you how I remove unwanted tampos and decals printed on diecast cars, with acetone. I'm mostly working on 1:64 scale cars but this can apply to any scale metal models.

Why not use acetone free nail polish remover I use that on my 1:18 scale didcast cars

How do you remove older matchbox decals because I tried it one time on an old matchbox to remove the decals and it peeled off the decal and paint as well . I noticed the these matchbox castings are from the Mattel line. I noticed that Mattel uses the same enamel paint they use for the Hot Wheels the same paint as well for the matchbox and a decals are easy to remove without peeling off the paint.

I'm not sure. I noticed that paint on old matchbox cars is very hard to remove, even with Bartoline paint stripper. Nitro paint thinners have no chance to damage paint even if car was submerged in nitro thinner for more than two weeks. Newer Mattel cars as Hot Wheels and Matchbox have weak paint and it is very easy to remove paint. So I guess old cars have good quality tampos as well. It looks like entire paintwork is baked after painting or has strong clear coat over paint and tampos. So removing tampos or decals results in removing paint as well. I was not trying to remove tampos from old cars. Oldest was maybe from 1990s period. New cars looks like have tampos printed after base paint in an separate layer which is weaker than base paint.

could just get a whiteboard pen and press medium on the car then do that for a few seconds wipe the marker off and do it again just to be sure

I tried that method but acetone works much faster. Also whiteboard pen (or dry erase markers) can stain the paint and can be pretty messy job.

It doesnt damage the original paint?

No if isn't in contact with acetone for too long, like 10 minutes long. If you only remove tampos you will not damage the paint.

Does this work on 1/24 model cars?

Of course. The scale doesn't matter. Just make a test before you use acetone. Try to rub acetone on some part of your model that is not visible, to test how your paint reacts with this chemical. If it starts do destroy your paint than you can't use it.
