One way to check condition of paint or glass is once clean and dried, spray on a prep or alcohol and you'll see the circles you can do this to check if you removed a coating aswell. Never polish off water spots if you can help it because it can drive the minerals deeper, heat is what makes the spots burn in.

Another method for water spotted glass is to use 0000 steel wool and any liquid wax. Cheapest you can find. A good friend that owns a body shop told me about this years ago. Let the steel wool work, don't force it, the wax lubricates. Also can use detail spray. You can feel when the water spots are gone. Gets extremely smooth! MUST be 0000.

@theanonymoustechie Have to use the fine grade 0000 steel wool. And some type of lubricant. Can use detail spray but I like liquid wax. Doesn't have to be expensive, cheap works great.

I hope this comment will be helpful for some that are fighting the water marks battle that I fought. 1- for some reason, hard water spots bond stronger and faster to glass than they do to paint. 2- you don't necessarly need a detailer and hunderds of dollars to remove water spots. Buy a polish and use a micro fiber pad and it will get rid of water spots that has been on the paint/glass for anywhere from weeks to months. 3- polishing by hand is less risky (won't haze) and will slightly restore paint by the way. So, just polish itched water spots by hand in your garage or driveway and don't bother with hard water spot removers. Some hard water removers haze and leave foggy resedue that requires polishing anyway. This gentlman is right about using polish, but I wish he showed polishing by hand since it's really easy and effective method instead of the DA polisher which many people don't have access to.

I would love your opinion on my situation: new car (10 months) that got hard water spots after I made a rookie mistake of using a self wash bay power washer without any soap to get bird poop out when I was out of town. I'm getting an exterior detail w/ ceramic coat applied, and both detailers use the same water remover methods that you spoke about in your hard water spots video.I have a choice between the two options below. A: Detailer with a garage setup but variable pricing ($100 per extra hour) for extra steps (mineral deposit remover, polishing - last resort) if the hard water spots do not come out with the clay bar. They estimated four hours for detail plus ceramic coat = $400, plus any additional costs for additional time (details above). B: Mobile detailer that would detail my car outside from 8 am - 2 or 4 pm without a tent/canopy, but fixed price to get the water spots out. They estimated 6-8 hours, $350. Is the detailer with garage setup significantly safer and the better option, even though it's potentially $1-200 more?

Thank you for this great video! One of the first ones I've watched (I've watched a lot) that explained the differences between the three stages of hard water spots. I have water spots all over my car, and a highly rated local detailer said that clay bar doesn't usually remove ALL of them, so then they try a water spot remover, which according to this video is the same step (2) before polishing. Any thoughts on that? I'm going to do an exterior detail w/ ceramic coat but want to make sure the detailer gets all of the water spots out before they apply the ceramic coat.

I've tried to clean my windshield with window cleaner. The Camry was given to me by my late cousin who past away September 1st 2022. There is a Beebe shot where it broke the glass but it's not spreading. The Camry LE is a 2000 so the windshield is now 23 years old. There looks to be strikes on the glass going downward. I thought in cleaning windshield regularly this would get rid of the strikes. But to no avail. There still there. I thought about getting a glass stripper from Stoner to see if that would work. Haven't got the kit yet but I'm going too. Where I live we have extreme hard water here. I won't wash my car with it. I use distilled water. I know that's expensive but the clean car speaks for itself. I just don't know how to get rid of the strikes out of the windshield. Liked your video on water spots.

You can, but it is a very strong chemical, so you must follow all directions. Make sure the wheels are cool to the touch, and do not let the Water Spot Remover sit on the surface for too long, 20 seconds or so and then very thoroughly rinse it off with water. Safer alternatives to remove water spots on gloss black wheels (after cleaning them) would be our Hand Polish or Brilliant Glaze.

It works when the waterspots arent to bad, but after they been in the sun for a few weeks you need something more agresive, than the water spot removed works much better, if the acid wont remove it than you need to polish .

@@Scott-sb1xi I tried removing waterspots on a truck today, claybar it, than use water spot remover which will remove the minerals that are still in top, otherwise you run the risk of etching the minerals into the clear coat with the polish. It’ll look good and a few weeks later they’ll come out again. On this truck I needed 3 passes with Adams heavy cutting compound with a microfiber pad, following up with 2 passes with compound and blue pad, and finally white pad with polish and it came out perfect. And on the windows I use the Adams Glass polish that you only use by hand, and it removed some, but a wool pad with heavy cutting compound removed it much faster , did 6 passes and removed the compound, reaplied the compound and did another 6 passes and that did the trick. So on the paint try using the least aggressive method first in a small area, and check what works for you.

#1 Clay Bar DOES NOT remove water spots. #2 Rubbing water spots into the paint with a wax is WRONG. Unless you use water as a lubricant. I'm not even going to watch the whole video. I would not just do detail my washing machine.
