Why is there gasket maker on the area where the thermostat housing goes? That’s not supposed to be like that.

Great video I'm noticing a drip below my crank on my e39 so I suspect the water pump and thermostat housing I'll just replace both at the same time looks straightforward

That little trick about using the thermostat bolts to break free the water pump was great, it saved my day!! No need to buy an "extraction kit" the thermostat bolts do just fine. Keep up the good work!!

I will like to thank you for sharing your expertise as this is very helpful and educational for first timers trying to fix a BMW, I have a 97 528I and have replaced the radiator, hoses, caps, thermostat, but still gets hot after a drive, I just got the water pump and will install once weather gets better, CHICAGO Cold, now if I put the water pump in and remove the air from the system and it gets hot what can it be ? Your input will greatly be appreciated.

are there 2 parts to a water pump? the electric water pump for my 2006 bmw z4 3.0 roadster cost $600 compared to mechanical one that looks similar to yours which cost $60 both fit my car. autozone says both fit my car but there shaped differently??

Check out Nathan's "BMW Snap Lock Coolant Hoses Installation Tips And More E88 Coolant Leaks" for tips on the proper way to use these clip hoses. I had the lower hose pop off, fortunately it only cost me $30 in more coolant! I wish I had seen Nathan's video before. What a sense of security to hear that click, knowing the hose was securely installed. It made me appreciate the German engineering rather than question it. Also coolant as a lubricant works great and obviously is compatible. Thanks for your video!

What's everything you had to remove to access the pump? Radiator, belt. Anything bit in the video? My mom's 528i is over heating. New radiator, hoses and thermostat

@alsdjfknbo8 жыл бұрын
+Brian Smith Did you have any symptoms before the fan clutch broke? How many miles did your car have when it broke? I ask cause I'm debating replacing it. Nothing wrong with it. But I'm sure its the original 175k

hey buddy nice video super informative and i liked your trick with the thermostat housing bolts i have one question do you need to put adhesive around where the pump mounts? same question with the thermostat housing it looked like u had some kind of blue silicone around the thermostat housing? is this necessary im planning on doing a complete cooling system overhaul on my 98 528i i have all the parts just looking for info before i jump in. hope to hear some feedback i think it would be super helpful seeing as youve replaced all the stuff im about to do.
@BeamerFanaticsE39E908 жыл бұрын
YES You would just need to put silicone around the thermostat housing And the Water pump.
@KH-gc3xn8 жыл бұрын
Just any silicone or do you have to have like a high temperature kind? Etc any info u have or advice would be greatly appreciated the main thing I'm concerned with is bleeding the cooling system and getting all the air out. The only thing I've ever bled was a clutch of my 94 prelude and it was a bitch I assume it's the same idea though?
@alsdjfknbo8 жыл бұрын
+Kyler Heinan bleeding it out is easy. there are two screws. One near the expansion tank, and the other to the right of the thermostat. Look for two plastic semi large screws. There are videos online on how to bleed the air out.
