How to remove wheel locks EASY! (MK5 Volkswagen Jetta)

Thanks for the video brother. I’m having the same issue, stealership told me that they discontinued these locking lug nuts for the older VWs and wants $100 to remove and replace them. I’d rather not, but might end up having to go that route. “Looks like they’re stuck together forever like my nuts.” Haha I love your candidness and funny, easy-going attitude in this vid. I’ll subscribe and check out your other content. I hate trying to get stuck stripped bolts outta sockets. It’s the worst!

Did that lug nut had a spinning collar? I been working 2 days now trying to remove a 7/8 socket that is stuck on the spinning collar

how did you get the 7/8 off that was slipping? I have a 22mm on mine right now and it's slipping, but not coming off the lug... FML

I was able to just work it back and forth with a hammer and an extension it eventually came off man keep working at it

@@SidewalkMechanics Also, I realized that my security lug has a safety ring, so no matter what size socket I put on there it wasn't gonna come off, it just spins and spins. Going to the stealership tomorrow to get them to pull the locks

My mk5 GTi got a flat last night and I drove it 20 miles with it flat just to get home because the car didn’t come with the wheel key exactly like this one and now I have to figure out what to do or I won’t be making it to work

hopefully your wheel is not damaged... but your best bet is to take it to a shop they only charge about 20$ to have the wheel locks removed at a reputable shop. I had tires put on once and they didn't even charge me to remove the wheel locks and replace them with regular bolts

I gave up brother! I couldn't get it and found some other socket lol that's why you gotta use poopy sockets haha

Yeah I tried this method today and for some reason my socket just keeps spinning on the outer lock and now have to figure a way of getting it off. Fun fun

@@marksawicky4485 if you have a little propane torch you can heat up the socket which will cause it to expand and then you should be able to beat it off

Yeah the torch did cross my mind, hopefully this won't be the same issue with the other luglocks

yeah brother I just hammered the 12point 21mm socket on there and was able to get it out!!

Before I commit and bang that socket on there when you did yours what size wheels did you have on your Jetta? I have a 2013 VW Jetta with 16 wheels. I’m assuming the wheel and lug nuts should be the same as yours. ?

haha! it's tough I have in the past taken my car to a local tire shop and they charged me a couple bucks per tire to take them off 🙃. so that's always an option good luck

I own a golf 2011 I promise you just get the right special tools save you allot of time an money. That's why there so expensive to work on cause they require different stuff from American cars

The fact Volkswagen makes lug nuts so difficult to take off is ridiculous! I mean if you lose (or never had one in the the first place), you are pretty much screwed (no pun intended)! I have a 2003 Jetta. I got a flat tire. I tried to change it myself, but couldn't get passed the wheel lock. Called AAA but they couldn't help when they came. I called a number of tire sales shops, but they said they couldn't help me either if I didn't have the key. Went to the dealership, but they say don't carry the key locks, and can't order them since my car is so old. WTF!?!?
