Thankyou so much I was in such a state after paying for my tyres to be fitted then to discover a locking nut like this on my car and them wanting £55 to remove it! So turned to good old youtube and found your vid gave it a try and it worked! I'm so happy right now although I'm now having to pay fitting charges again to have my new tyre put on ,but still saved overall !! Thankyou!!

I've had this in the past, I just hammered an IRWIN bolt extractor on it, it compressed the ring enough to hold on tight. ;)

ive just knocked the spinning collars off 4x mcgard wheel locks with a hammer and screwdriver took 5 mins they are hard but brittle they smashed on the third smack with the hammer.

I have this same problem with a used car I recently bought. However, there's not enough clearance between the locking lug's outside diameter and the well it's in to get a grinding stone into to remove that collar. However, your (basically) brute force approach has given me some ideas. Thanks!

Diamond bits.... I faced off with one of these yesterday. Cut a slice in the facing to expose the slip ring, then drill it with drill bits, or a diamond rotary bit. The pain in the ass part is that you have to cut it in two places to get the ring out of there.

Isnt the point of these lug nuts to delay & deter like any other lock instead of being unremoveable without key? Can imagine thieves not being interested in making a shit load of noise for 40 minutes. Great way to do it if the key is lost though, havent seen ur method before

yes it is the point of them, however my key was broken as also my wheels are not worth any money there standard kia wheels, id advise putting lock nuts back on if you have expensive wheels you dont want stealing

Diamond dremel bits, a few regular tiny drill bits, and a lot of patience. The one I had to deal with was a jeep, had to drill the ring in two places in order to get it out of the recess, then a 12 point socket hammered on there got it right out. That fucking slip ring is designed to prevent using a socket from pulling it by being slightly larger.

Good job but not sure why you used a Torque wrench when you over tightened it several time. Once it clicked if Torque is set correctly you should stop.

i wasn't tightening it i was using the longer bar of the torque wrench as breaker bar, i know bad idea but it worked int he end

Using a grind stone is slow. More chances to remove the nut if you have a nut extractor socket

I wonder how long or how hard it is to apply some anti seize grease to bolts when installing wheels on I’m currently struggling with a Mercedes that has deep bolt wells and some asshole who fitted my brakes must have just gunned them back on dry on my second lock key and now bolt is stripped I’m gonna attempt this then I’ll use an easy out if this fails and if that fails think I’ll be using my 12” petrol grinder to cut the alloy off, all this can be avoided if people just take time and use anti seize

I’ve drilled the collar off 2 sides had to break out with punch, tomorrow I’m going to belt a twist socket or socket on, I’ll also prob hit it with map gas to the hub.....

Update I got it out using a grip socket from toolstation had to grind it down to fit inside wheel well also I think the heat and penetration fluid helped over the course of 5 days 😂

Use 24 mm socket to drive back the anti theft spinner first then with the tool he is using they come right off.

Hi mate I need to do the same thing roughly. Should I buy a cheap mig welder or one with the electrode sticks. My lock screw is more sunken inwards,so not a lot of room around the lock nut. so don't know what i should buy.

Hi I wouldn't like to advise on welders I've never used one. U Can u try a drill and a thin pinch. Drill a hole between the collar and the nut and put the punch in and whack it till the collar splits then put the socket on to screw it of

It's just off Amazon brand is goxawee I got it in the sale was about 45 UK pounds. It is pretty powerful and came with 170 bits so yeh I'm pretty happy with it for the price

Hi Dremel are the best. You also can use the metal glutted mini cutters. One problem is stopping the spinner moving . Best wedge in with another screw driver. And use thin card to protect when. Dremel extension is thinner than the machine. Just done 4 in 2 hours. Irwin reverse bolts are great.

I would use a grinder to cut a CROSS ( Philip's Head ) or cut the 6 sides a bit like a nut then you're able to remove the wheel lock Nut ! Another way to remove it is to weld the wheel lock nut to an ordinary nut of similar size then remove it with an Impact Wrench !

Think 22mm but it depends on the size of your own wheel nuts. It must needs to be a tight fit so it grips hard

A cobalt helical die grinder or dremel bit works a bit better for recessed nuts and Fiat lug bolts. Also a sharp centre punch will drive in where a screw driver wont fit. If the bolt or nut is partially seized a female spiral 7/8 " nut remover will work where the 12 pt socket will just strip out.

I tried for 3 hours...gave up....the 19 mm socket goes on tight...but when turned to remove it just spins....gave up...I forgot where I bought the wheel locks....I will call McGard anyway on Monday....

Have u drilled put the spinning collar. If so try a 18mm socket and hammer it on should hold tight. You peobly need a vice to hammered the socket back off the nut for the next wheel but should work
