Works! BUT make sure you have an Impact Drive with enough strength. My little Black and Decker was challenged. Backing out and in a few times got a couple of tough bolts out.

@MowerMike We will need to remove both sides. We have very little movement from the tractor. Already ordered the zero turn fluid you mentioned. This weekend, we dismantle!

@MowerMike well, we took out both transaxles and changed out the fluid. Put back together, and she moves!! The odd thing is that it goes backward much faster than forward. Any suggestions?

Hey! Loveing your video. I couldn't do lawn mower repair with out'em. I have a Question? A belt got Tangled around transmission fan, when it broke. Cause the opposite side to stop pulling. I got the Transmission loosened and let down, resting on a block . Now what? down on the block

I would just cut the belt and get it off there. Glad my goofy videos help ya out

Look at every one of your brackets and make sure you do not have any cracks in them. Some units will develop cracks in the brackets and cause the hydro units to lean in and the belt comes loose. If you have over 800 hours on your unit and the oil has never been changed then you are going to pay a lot to rebuild plus your time. Just buy new Hydro Gears and change your oil every 200 hours. Recommended from factory is usually 400 hours but 15W 50 oil is cheap and hydro gears are expensive. buy oil by the gallon if you can. use synthetic.

Great video. I had a tornado drop a tree on my zero turn and now the right side won't go backwards. I also can't get the brake to disengage. From the top, everything looks fine, but I drove it up under my carport, and now it's stuck under there because it won't back up, and I can't push it. Unfortunately, I don't currently have a decent floor jack. I'm hoping it's just a bent linkage, and there's nothing wrong with the transmission itself. I thought I'd have to fix it myself, but my grandmother was nice enough to offer to pay to get it fixed for me. I have someone coming out next week. I decided to look up a repair manual. It's a Husqvarna, yeah, that didn't go well. I did find their Online parts store, though, and the IPL, but I was curious how the linkages and stuff connect. This video was pretty helpful at showing me that. It also showed me that if I was repairing it myself like I initially thought I'd have to do, I'd have to jack it up and take the tire off to see those linkages. I was a vehicle mechanic for 20 years for the army, but zero turn mowers are a bit different from forklifts, heaters, and HMMWV so I was at a bit of a loss without a repair manual and to make matters worse, the tools you use in the Army belong to the Army so you don't get to keep them.

I would start by trying to put the transmission in neutral, there should be a lever ontop of the transmission on each side that you pull that puts it out of gear

Great video Mike. Don’t keep us hanging too long for the reinstall. Is this identical to the removal on a Deere Z355R? Also which is the rear left wheel, the one on the left when sitting on the mower or the one on the left when standing in front looking at it? Yes I’m that dumb lol

Thanks! Yes it should be the same on the Z355. It is a valid question and I don’t know the answer. I suggest looking at the one you are going to buy and making sure the orientation and setup is the same. The left and right are like shoes they look different and are opposite. I do suggest you check out my other Hydrogear videos before you go buy a new one.

Why not use a vacuum pump and suck all of the fluid out and then replace it. I will try this next week. It's better than going through all of the trouble. Do it a couple of times to make sure you remove the fluid.

There should be a white tag with numbers and a barcode on it. That is what you need to order the new gearset from hydro gear. If somebody pressure washed the tags off the machine it might be hard to find the numbers. The tag should be on the hydro gears somewhere.

Not on zeroturns I think they use those on regular riders though. All zeroturns have Hydrogear

I know that the Z425s after serial # 130001 uses tough torque TZT-7 trans. They changed the design of this model midway thru its tenure and rotated the motor 90⁰ among other changes.
