So we used our GoPro and I did what yo suggested and converted into .avi that is in GoPro software then I transfered to Sony. I'm still having same problem as my last 2 videos(not gopro) Where it is laggy. I tried doing proxy but it stopped at 94%. IS there a way to find my video BEFORE I rendered it? Once it rendered it became laggy even though I used 1080 and followed directions. I have all the setting you mention in this video. What other options do I have. If you look at last 2 video you see what I mean. I don't want to put up another video looking like this. I m so frustrated and sad I can't fix this. I don't know what else to do. Any other ideas? Alan Macher That is weird. They aren't here. What I did was right click on the video clip then click on "Swtiches" then cliecked on Disemble Resample. It works. I do this step before I start editing. I stick the one big clip on the timeline then do this step. Then start cutting stuff out I don't want. It's easier and faster that way. It makes it more clear. I do not know what "Disemble resample" means but it works lol :)

Hey man! I have this weird problem with two frames merging into one. There is the regular frame but it looks like it has the previous frame laid over it with a lower opacity. This happens in a high-motion scene and isn't in the original footage or preview. I'm rendering to 720p 30fps(NTSC) from 720p 60fps(NTSC) with the rest of the settings being the same as yours.

***** If you did not match your media settings and used a different frame rate to what you recorded with, that can make playback jump around. I guess you recorded at 60fps. If you did, you should watch my tutorial for rendering to higher frame rates. If you are capturing gameplay that is jumping all around, this is very difficult to encode for KZbin. Use much higher Bit Rate settings, however this will also produce much higher file sizes.

Hey, I have an i5 Devils canyon prossor with the gtx 970. I'll usually have an intro, two/three clips of game play (with overlay webcam via shadowplay) outro and I also pan audio left and copy it and pan right. A 10/15min video takes me 45mins to an hour... Thought...?

What is the exact model number for your CPU ? Go to Control Panel/System to find out. Your rendering times are not that bad really, considering what you have in your project.

You have a great computer! Considering what is your project, your render times sound normal to me. If you only have one hard drive, that could be a bit of a bottle neck, because it is having to read and write at the same time. Added on top of that, it is having to play back two video streams at the same time of the same drive. Have you ever tried rendering with Intel Quick Sync ? If you select Sony AVC/MVC and customize a template, you can set the ENCODE mode to Intel Quick Sync. If your computer is configured to use this, (some are not) you may see faster rendering speed.

KiwiPowerNZ I have a new GTX 960 which I bought just for this, and like you, I found out it is not supported. Apparently Sony will not support cards that use Maxwell technology. I have just asked the Movie Studio Zen what is the best graphic card I can buy that will still be recognized by this software. Sony refused to give me a list of supported cards. (Adobe Premier does have one).

fabitas Yeah it's annoying, even more so for you because you bought the card just for rendering. I bought mine for gaming, so I'm not going to change to an old card just for rendering. CPU renders take almost an hour and the whole time I can't do any video editing and there's not really any CPU power left over to play a game while I'm waiting. All I can do is browse videos -_- I still have my old card, a 1GB Radeon 4870. I wonder how fast it would have rendered in OpenGL. I guess i'll never know.

How do you set the default folder that the video will render to. I created one project where I have it Rendering to a specific folder, while a number of my other projects render to a subfolder within the folder where the project file is saved, but I don't remember how I configured it to render to that specific folder.

***** That's rather odd behavior, but it did work. For some of those projects I was indeed setting the output folder in the first window as well as the second folder, but apparently for that one project I hadn't, and therefore had no need to change it in future episodes in the series where I "save as'd" the previous project file to create a copy of the new one... It'd be nice if this was just simply a default output option where if you wanted to you could just specify as desired location where you want files to be rendered to, if you don't want to use the programs default location. I've done about 30 videos in the last two weeks and I've had this issue on about half of those videos, so it was getting rather irritating that I had to change the location for those videos where it wasn't outputting to the usual folder. What do you mean by "always fades every video's color as soon as I upload a video onto the editor"? Do you mean when you IMPORT a video into Movie Studio ? Movie Studio does not change the colour of any video, just because you imported it. Whatever colour the video looks like in Movie Studio BEFORE you start editing, is what the original video actually looks like. If you have accidentally applied a Video Effect anywhere to the program, that will cause a problem. What I suggest you do, is a full reset of the program. This will guarantee that all settings are where they should be. Instructions listed here: www.moviestudiozen.com/doctor-zen-faq/573-how-to-reset-sony-software-to-default-settings Which Media/Video Player do you normally use to play back videos on your computer ? Most media players artificially add some filters to BOOST the colour of your videos. If you are use to using a media player that has been doing this, that would explain why you think videos look dull in Movie Studio.

You must be using something to view your videos after they have been rendered with Movie Studio ? If you are not viewing your videos using a Media Player like Windows Media Player and ONLY using Movie Studio, how do you know/think your videos look duller in MS ? I can assure you that the program does not apply any filters and is showing you the actual raw video.

Not that I know of. There are a lot of things I don't like about Movie Studio Platinum 13 compared to other video editors I've used. Today I tested out a demo for Filmora and was so impressed I bought the full version. It doesn't degrade the colors, is less complicated to use and comes with way more cool features. I guess Movie Studio is getting shelfed haha.

In reference to Proxy Video Creation I noticed in your preview window you have the setting of “Best Half” rather than the default “Preview (Auto)”. Does your setting also help produce a smoother play back? Also, if you “Add Media” as your project progresses should you then also do a Proxy on that clip or picture?

I have Sony movie Studio 13. I have been attempting to render a AVCHD 45 minute 'tape'. The first 32 minutes play back fine but while the picture freezes at the same place the sound continues. With your assistance I have previously successfully completed a number of projects including my son's 45 minute wedding video. This is the 3rd attempt to get this program to work for this project but to no avail. I have cleared the memory cashe reloaded the sony program etc. The only thing that I have not undertaken this time is to create video proxies. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Trevor Pollen

***** Thanks for the response. I'm sorry, I am more a photography guy just dabbling in some 4k video now. I rechecked my camera settings. They are 4k. My problem arose when I imported the MP4 into Adobe Lightroom. It looks like Lightroom dumbed down the video to 1920x1080. After a straight copy to HDD from the SD card I now have a MP4 file 3840x2160 in Movie Studio 13. When I said "grayed out" I mean I can see the place to click "create video proxy" but it is non-clickable. I looks like you answered that problem above by saying that it is automatically done with 4k video. The preview window improved after making those changes. Thanks for your help.

If you are using video from an iPhone, you need to use a Video Conversion program and convert video to Constant Frame Rate before importing into Movie Studio. There are large number of Video Converters you can try. Handrbrake.fr has highest quality converter available.

If you have the Platinum version, you should only be using the Platinum version now and not the basic! To open a project in the CORRECT version, you need to open manually. Open Movie Studio Platinum 13 and go to Project/Open - then navigate to your Movie Studio projects folder and open the project you want to work on. iPhone video is problematic for just about all Video Editing programs, because Apple being Apple has to do everything differently. If iPhone recorded at a constant frame rate there would not be a problem. Everyone has the same problem on Windows computers. On a Mac they make it easier.

I just rendered a 5 minute video using your settings. It took a while on CUDA. Would it be faster using CPU only or is it just the length of the video file? I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. I built my computer from scratch 3 years a go.

If you can hear audio while you edit, but not after the video has been rendered, that normally means your Audio Settings in the Project Properties are set incorrectly or you selected the wrong output format/template. Open Project Properties and go to Audio tab - make sure it is set to Stereo and not 5.1 surround. if set to 5.1 surround and you render with stereo output, no audio will result. Stereo must go with Stereo 5.1 must go with 5.1

And with what program do you record, because I have the current problem: I tried multiple recording programs: - Dxtory - Fraps - Action But the problem is, dxtory doesn't give me enough fps (I want 60) But it does split the audio (microphone and windows sounds) Fraps doesn't split the audio but gives me 60 fps. Action gives me 60 fps, and splits the audio but...: When I put the files into movie maker it takes a couple of minutes before building peaks is done. When I'm using fraps and dxtory I don't have this problem.. I hope you can help me out, but if you don't have Action then I don't think you know what the problem is :p. Thanks a lot for the solution you gave me and I hope you can give me another solution :) Thomas

Hi Derek - Great tutorials, however I have two Sony HDR-XR550 cameras, one is NTSC the other Pal and so end up with two video streams of different formats, my question - which project setting to use for the best result.

I live in the UK and bought the first XR550V (advertised as PAL) on ebay about 4 years ago and loved it's simplicity, I then got involved with a theatre group and took video of performances - however one was not enough and I again looked to ebay and the second was a XR550VE, I should have known better four years ago!

I really need your help, every time I start rendering my project, it only makes it to 6% before it crashes & asks to send an error report, my project is a 3 min long music video & the only effects I used on the video clips were black & white or stabilization. I even tried getting rid of the stabilization effect & still no luck, I changed video setting & even tried uploading my video directly to KZbin, please help, this is really frustrating:(

I have a video with three people on the screen, top left, top right, bottom middle. I want to cut out the top left person and bottom section and leave the top right person on her own speaking and filling the whole screen. Can I do this?

You can use the Cookie Cutter tool from the Video FX tab, to cut/show only one section of a video. It has different default shapes you can apply. I also recommend you read/watch this in-depth tutorial on creating different multi-screen video effects. @@MovieStudioZen Ah, how nice to get a reply. I did manage it with the auto crop though it was difficult. I have a new problem now. My Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum keeps not responding. I wonder if it's Magix deliberately doing it to force me to buy Studio 23. Do you have a video on this problem?

Magix CANNOT deliberately hack your program. I would need to know about your project before commenting. There are many different reasons that could cause problems. If you would like further help, please post a message on my forum here: www.moviestudiozen.com/forum Press Login, Create an Account. Without knowing anything about your computer, version of Windows or Project Settings, I would recommend you do a full program reset for Movie Studio. This will clear the cache and restore all settings to defaults. This sometimes fixes weird problems. It is safe to do and won't delete your projects, as long as you have been saving them in your Documents folder. I hope it won't go again. I would like to reward you with a payment but I only want to pay a one-off fee. Can you advise me on this? Meantime, in desperation, I upgraded to Magix Movie Studio Platinum 23 but, to my dismay, I can't open anything! Can't get a time-line or anything. Movie 13 is so simple. Do you have a video for Magix Platinum 2023 for real beginners, like how to open the screen? My task bar gets in the way, as well.

I wish you had asked me before buying Magix Movie Studio Platinum 23. VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum was officially retired 2 years ago now! I made numerous videos about this 2 years ago, to warn people and explain the changes. When VEGAS Movie Studio Platinum was retired, the owners MAGIX (in Germany), created massive confusion, by "recycling" the product name "Movie Studio Platinum" and using it for a completely different program, that has nothing to do with the program you are used to using. I advised Vegas Movie Studio users that loved using "VEGAS", to upgrade to VEGAS Edit instead. VEGAS Edit 20 is the full version of Vegas Pro. Vegas Movie Studio Platinum was the "little brother" of Vegas Pro, which means it works a similar way. At the moment, I am only making tutorials for VEGAS Pro. I am not making tutorials for MAGIX Movie Studio Platinum, although I may do so some time in the future (still not sure). I can't help you with Magix Movie Studio Platinum 23, but I can tell you where to get help. Magix Movie Studio Platinum used to be called "Movie Edit Pro" or "Video Deluxe". i have an issue when im done rendering and saving the video, and i go to the file where i saved it to open it, it says that is saved the file as if it were from Movie studio HD which i dont have so i cannot open it at all and now ALL of my videos in the same file have the issue. even though i saved it from movie studio platinum 13. Please help

It sounds like you're trying to open the .vf Project File, which is NOT a video file. When you render a project, it creates a .mp4 Video file, which any media player can play. If you followed this tutorial, I said at a certain point to CHECK the Output Folder Location. This MUST be set correctly BEFORE you begin the render, otherwise your video will end up in the wrong folder and you will thing it is missing. You can use Windows Search function near Start button and find your missing video right now.

Hi! Have made a family video from pictures and other videos, can render it, but it is not full screen, i have problems to find what is wrong with it. The preview is fantastic, but after the rendering i have black stripes around the pics, if they where 640x480 small.

Still Image cameras do not make images the same Aspect Ratio as Video, that is why there are black bars. Video uses 16:9 aspect ratio, most camera shoot 3:2 aspect ratio. You need to use Event Pan/Crop and set to 16:9 widescreen. Is there any way to pre-set all the pictures to 16:9? Because when i make home videos, i use 6-700 to 1000 pictures, it is very exhausting to set them one by one :)

Go to Options/Preferences/Editing At the very bottom select "Automatically crop still images". Now when you import as a group, everything will be cropped to Match your Project Property settings.

Sorry to bother you again, but after the rendering, my pictures are still small, centered, and have massive black bars around them. Something else is a problem... Made my pictures and videos with a phone, 3264x2448, 8 MP and 1920x1080 FHD. The preview is still looking good, have no black bars around the pics, they are full screen.

Ah yes, I always render in 60fps. I can put my facecam to record on 480p, 720p or 1080p. The higher the setting, the less fps I get. But I still want the quality of my facecam to match the main, background video (of the game itself).

Yes MSP13 works on Windows 7. What do you mean by open the tab in my computer ? What "tab" are you talking about ?
