Just put those layers all in a folder, duplicate it and then merge all the layers in the new folder. That way if you don't like it for some reason, you could just hide/delete the new merged layer.

You will not make an masterpiece every time. You will paint another thing and another. Isnt big dead just merge the layers after you being sattisfyed. Unless you want change the clothes and etc, variations

as a traditional artist who sometimes uses digital, I've learned that my preferred way of rendering is a base sketch, refined sketch + flats and multiple layers for the rendering. I personally don't like having a very clean look, and a messy style requires messy workflow haha. The rendering layers don't have a specific order to them, just separate them if I feel like I need to continue on a separate layer

If you're scared like me to do that, put your files in a group, duplicate, hide the OG layer and then merge the copy. Paint on that. Some of us still need to build confidence so the backup really helps, keep drawing 🎉💕

I always merge them when I feel like I'm nearly done, always easier to draw over things instead of going Layer Hunting 😂 (I do backups first by either duplicating group if project size not that big or the actual file)

I went from obsessively using layers, to merging everything into one layer in the early stage, but now I'm going back to using layers but...properly lmao. It makes things so much cleaner oh my God.

As a digital artist, i add a layer, Take my biggest brush, cover the thing in a pleasing color, set to multiply, clip to the folder containing my art, and take a textured eraser and go ham. Boom, ✨done✨.

I usually fill in my character a random color- and quick clip group that layer. Then in that group I’ll color each thing separately (clothes, skin), and then if I want to add details to clothes or smt I make THAT layer a quick clipping group as well. Sound super tedious but I’ve been doing it for awhile and it’s saved me time.

I would really love to see a full video explaining this technique cause the time you save when you pre render everything before the final is pretty cool. So like let me see if I got right though you basically color and rough render each mask and then for the final render you connect it all which will take less time and be easier cause everything is kinda “render sketched”

Instead of masking, I do Alpha lock, and then merge all of my coloring layers into one at the end. As for the fine details, I end up copying the canvas with a transparent background and do what I want that way lol, I’m scared I might end up wanting to change something so I don’t merge ALL of my layers 💀.

Guys, if you find it nerve-wracking to merge all your layers together, you can turn all your layers on and swipe your canvas down with three fingers at the same time. Then, select “copy canvas” to copy your layers and then paste! This will copy and paste your layers as one big layer and you’ll still have your original layers underneath that big layer if you ever decide that you dont like it. ❤

I actually quite enjoy doing all the detailing in the slower methods! It feels more like i'm sculpting my creation, which is fun alot of the time Obv it's tedious to do some bits but with time i've cut down what usually took me maybe 8hours to 4-5hours, and that's also counting all the time i used on the stupid sketch you can never get right lmao

Just dont be scares of merging layers im also hestitant about this back then but if you want to keep the layers for personal reason just make a folder layers, put it all in and copy paste one seperately, work with the merged layers makes rendering much easier yeah.

What is that color effect you use? You can see it easier on the whites. Like misaligned transperant copy layers of different colors that looks like something is digitally out of focus. I like how it looks, tho I am not sure I understand how it is done or what it is called.

I would just create another layer on the very top for over paint rather than merging all the layers. In case my client wants some changes and its just much easier in the work flow to go back and tweak things!

yeah, but you can't do the post-production with a group... that's why you need to merge them... but also you can duplicate it first....

I just put flat colour cell shade it on another layer, blend it, add another layer but a weird shadow and just erase the parts where I want light to hit lol

I have like 15 sketch layers and then I just immediately color over the sketch, then if im testing colors or color curves I just do it on a new layer if I don't like it I delete it and if I do I just merge it with the original color layer

So for someone who never wants to use layers, at least at this stage in life, what do I do, when a painting app suddenly has a layers options added to it, and yet when I save an image as a PNG, whether some of it is colored or not, there's some for lack of better words, pixels that are in different shades of the colors I have used or not used, like whites and, whatever else, how do I keep them away from the image, entirely? Because it is rare I finish an artwork in just one go
