Thank you Kachi, for the informative video. My passport expires Jan 2024, and I plan to travel to Nigeria around April 2024 by God’s grace. Do you think it makes sense to fly with an expired passport and just do all this process in Nigeria? Can i fly to Nigeria without my passport as a canadian PR? Thanks a lot

Hi ! I would advise you to start your application to renew your passport in Canada ASAP so by January you should have your new passport, it’s honestly better and more convenient to travel with a valid passport to avoid issues from the airline

Hey Kachi! Thanks for this!!! Can you get your passport same day??? How long will it take for you to mail your renewed passport to you. Also, can I travel back to Naija with expired passport??? Sorry my questions are many..

Hi, no you can’t get your passport on the same day, if you don’t have any issue with your NIN it should take about 2 - 3wks to get it back. For the expired passport “You can, but some airlines may not approve your trip, so we advice you apply for an Emergency Travel Certificate to go and return with your Canadian passport( if you have one or PR card) . Check the website for details of the requirement for ETC (this answer was gotten from their website)

Of course!! You just need to make sure that the information on your NIN is exactly the same as what’s on your passport and you are good to go ☺️

Hi, I am yet to get mine because I had an issue with my NIN. But I know a few who renewed theirs on the same day I did and have received their new passport. It took about 4 - 5 weeks

Great information. For a family of five, can they use one envelope or it has to be individual envelopes? And also the administration fee of 50cad for the money order should be individual or one money order for the whole family?

Honestly to be safe, just use individual envelopes or when you get to Ottawa there are different Canada post offices close, so you can confirm from the high commission office and if they advise you to, get a big sized envelop that would be enough for 10 passports . For the money order, I believe it is for each application.

What if you only have the soft copy of your NIN. Forgot my NIN in Nigeria

You don’t need the hard copy of your NIN, you just need the details in it and make sure it has the EXACT information your passport has.

How about if your passport is carries your maiden name and your NIN carries your new surname? Will I be sent to the NIN guy?

Honestly it took a while because I had NIN issues , but generally I think it takes about 4 - 6 weeks

Hi ! I was also confused as I didn’t see/get any acknowledgment form after applying. I believe it’s the same as the appointment slip. Just make sure you have your Application form, appointment slip and receipt along with other documents stated in the video and you should be good to go !

Yes, you would leave the envelope at the office and your renewed passport would be sent to your address.

Hi, urgent question please: I omitted my middle name on my application form for passport renewal, but my nin and current passport both have the correct and full name. Do you think this will be an issue? Like do they specifically check for that? If yes, then can it be corrected there?

Hi, I don’t think it would be a big issue as long as the name is correct for both your NIN and passport ( that’s the most important thing)
