Just renewed by passport today! Adding some additional insight: I picked up a renewal form at the post office, got my photos taken at Walgreens which were about $15, and shipped through USPS. I did a money order directly at the post office for an additional fee of $1.45 (they only accepted debit or cash) and then they mailed it Priority Mail 2-day w/ tracking for $8.95. I told them standard shipping. My total fee's at the post office (USPS) were $140.40.

I had to mail mine in. I did not qualify for the online renewal. They received my passport on the 12/15 and I have the routine service (6-9 weeks). It’s now 1/30 and my application still says “in process”. I did pay for the 1-2 day shipping for them to return it so hopefully receive it soon. It’s going on week 7 now. I’ll keep you all posted.

To add complication, I now have a new legal name through marriage. Am I required to renew my passport under my new legal name or can I keep it as is to match the name on the airline tickets? Oh that's a difficult one. I would renew your passport under your new legal name and call the airline to see if you can change the name on the ticket of your new legal name. I've never been in this situation so I am unsure of what to do.

Nope. Just make sure the application is completely filled out, you have you photo attached to the form exactly as instructed and your payment is sent with the application. From there the application is sent via USPS.

I can not help you unfortunately. But I did a quick search in KZbin for passport renewal with a DS-11 form and there are a lot of great video resources. I would try that.

You need to visit an acceptance facility and have to talk to an agent. Bring your photo, id, and documentation and your check or money order. Acceptance facilities include Libraries, universities, govt buildings and the USPS.

Hello Kyla, My passport expired recently and i sent my old passport and DS-82. The processing center at Texas rejected and sent back to me, because like you said that the 2X2 photo must be stapled at the four corners. Some post offices will take a photo but that will be dependent on location. Some Walgreens and CVS will also take your photo. But you can take your own photo and get it printed. Once you have the application and photo taken it needs to be mailed with the USPS.

If you are renewing by mail you would include a check or money order in the envelope. Online card payment portal is only for international renewals by mail from outside the US. There is also an online renewal system in the US aka MyTravelGov that does accept cards or ACH.

You would have to go in person and fill out a DS-11 (use the form filler and fill it out before hand). If the passport has already been expired you would not need to fill out a DS-64. If it is still valid then you would need to fill out a DS-64 and include it with your application.

You will need a new passport photo as the DS-11 requires that. He will need to renew in person and no consent is needed as he is now an adult and can do this on his own. If you are using your checkbook for him make sure you write down his name and date of birth. Oh and his previous passport can be used in place of the birth certificate.

Go expedited as it currently takes 7-10 weeks for routine service. If you go with expedited it should take around 4-6 weeks or you can wait until 2 weeks before your travel date and go to an agency (with proof of travel).

Well there isn’t much you can do while you wait for your new passport. And unexpected trip opportunity unfortunately will have to wait. Besides most countries will not allow you in without 6 months or more on your passport before expiration.

I got the DS-82 application form from the USPS. It has information on the back of the application forms, I assume that is OK but wondered when you say print the application 'one sided'. We are only submitting ONE application, right ...but two separate pages. They only need one copy correct??

Double sided is probably ok and you only need one copy with the pages that have your info.

If you picked up the application at the USPS that is the exact form. If you print the form online at home then print it single sided. It’s the directions online when printing form. But it’s the same form that you received at the post office.

If your passport was issued in the last 15 years and is not a 5 year passport, then you can renew by mail. You can also get urgent service at the state department, but that is not guaranteed if you meet all requirements.

If it’s expired and you are traveling internationally you will need to renew your passport with expedited service.

Try contacting your congress person or senator. Don't worry if you agree or disagree with their politics as they are there to help you. There is also the DS-86 form if you think it has been lost in the mail.

There are many reasons as to why you still have not received your passport. Reasons that I can not tell you. You can check the status of your passport online. Also check processing times.

No he didnt but his passport status is Approved since 4 months and i dnt understand why they are not emailing him. He called passport office every week to check his status but every time they say keep patience n wait . they said he will get his passport end of this year but still i m not convinced..I dnt know how long i have to wait for him ..I almost kind of give up of waiting n waiting which is not ending ..On website it says you will get passport in 8-11 weeks but in actuall see its been now 7 months ..Its frustrating...US govt is suck n lazy ..They are not doing their jobs properly n we are suffering

Online renewals are down until March. For now you can renew by mail and your passport has to be issued in the last 15 years. Otherwise you will need to renew in person.

You can renew it at any time but you can also renew it at the embassy when the time is right.

Hi Kayla .. I need to renew two passports from one household. Can both applications and documents be included in one envelope? Would the expedite renewal fee be required for each applicant or since the applications are being sent together would one fee be acceptable? Can both passports be returned in one envelope using the 1-2 delivery fee? Can one check or money order be used for both passports for the total fees?

You can do that and even use one check or money order. Just make sure everything is calculated correctly same with 1 day shipping. Use the fee calc.

@@jerras52 Yes you can use one envelope. If you are using Priority express, you can use a flat rate envelope where if it fits, it ships. As long as you can fit both of them in 1 envelope you should be fine.

Rejection is not the end of the world. I am sure they can figure it out but worst case scenario is that they will send you a letter asking for a new application with a stapled photo.

State Department is working on an online passport system due to be out by the end of this year. You can pay with ACH or card and nothing will need to be mailed out. This new system only work for adult passport books (no 5 year books for minors) and you cannot renew a passport card online. For the photos you can upload a compliant 2x2" (5 cm x 5 cm) jpeg. No name or gender changes are supported using the new system.

What is a passport card 🤔

Passport cards are a form of id that can be used on land or sea crossings from Canada, Bermuda, Mexico and the Caribbean. You cannot use it for international air travel but you can use it on domestic flights as a real id compliant card (passport books are always real id compliant). You can either get one with your application or apply for one on a DS 82 form if you already have a passport book.

That is fact, however there are few designated post offices that offer forms. In 2022, most people use the internet, computers and phones hence why this passport renewal video is based on that....
