How to Get my U.S. Passport in ONE DAY! | Same Day Passport (2023)

So just went through this today and I was shocked how easy it was. This video is very helpful but I think maybe some things have changed now that the State Department is back from COVID backlog so will share my experience. Sorry to be long winded but I was stressing a lot before so want to provide as much detail. Made an appointment by phone 13 days ago for renewal as my passport expired summer 2019. That was honestly the toughest part. Just keep calling until you get the right person to get you booked, just make sure when you call you are in the 14 day travel window. I actually changed my flight after I got the appointment. This part is a bit confusing to me still. When I made the appointment I was set to travel the day after but regardless of when you tell them on the phone, doesn't seem to really matter the exact date ultimately as long as it is within 14 days of your appointment, not when you call. So when I called they said I had to be traveling in the next 14 days from when I made the call but once I changed my flight after I got the appointment it was technically 18 days. Basically once you get an appointment you are good as long as it's within 14 days of the day you go in. Want to stress though from what I observed the closer the better cause they will make you priority. If this is confusing, it is for me still kind of cause they didn't ask me anything. Anyway, I went to the DC office today on 19th St. (I live in Baltimore so I'm lucky to be able to just take the train there, with such few locations tough for a lot of people to do this). I had an 8 a.m. appointment. Get there early to be safe, there is a security check-in as it is a government building. Nothing crazy, basically like you get at a football game. You can fill the form out there by hand if you need to. They have them as you walk up to check-in. Check-in was pretty quick even with a little line. Clerk took my application, old passport, travel itenerary and license. She gave me a ticket and said wait to be called. I got called in less than ten minutes, went to another window where you pay the fee, mine was actually only $190. She was super nice, and gave me a confirmation ticket to come back at 11:30 to pick it up. This all seemed too easy. I was out of that process in about 20 minutes. Went and got breakfast, walked around blah blah.. until it was 11:30. I assumed at this point I would be waiting a while cause it couldn't be this simple. I checked through security again, went to the pickup window gave them the confirmation receipt and they gave me another ticket and said sit and wait to be called. Maybe five minutes later I got called and she handed me an envelope with my old and new passport. I couldn't believe it honestly. I spent maybe 30 minutes total in the place. I was not the only person shocked, I joked with a few people about it and heard people thanking the workers so much for making it easy. I was not asked a single question about my travel. I can't guarantee that as the case for everyone but I was pretty worried for nothing. I have had so many annoying interactions with government agencies (looking at you USCIS) but this was so seamless. Have your stuff ready and as long as you clear the background check you should be all good. Get an early appointment if you can, there were way more people when I came back at 11:30 so that seems to have helped me a lot but the windows were still moving quickly from what I saw. Show up on time, have your appointment conformation number ready and all your documents. Be friendly and make their job easy and they will make your process easy. Now I'm off to Ethiopia! Thank for all the day-of details, and also the info about proof of travel around the appt date, that is SUPER useful! I wasn't sure if you were able to get passport printed that day (the lady on the phone used some language that made it seem... unlikely for some reason). I completely lucked out and got someone on the phone immediately (I called at 7:59am and did the menu options that got me "in" at 8am on the nose. I was so shocked I wasn't on hold and I had to go run to my desk, hah.

Virgin requires passports for all cruises closed loop or not. All cruises require passports if it’s not a closed loop cruise. And Norwegian just let their passengers know the best way to travel is with passport. The industry is changing.

I got my passport 3 days ago, and I was excessively rewatching this video beforehand. This is the best video I’ve seen on passport information:) I went to the New Orleans agency, and at least for me, the only thing that was different is they didn’t ask me why I was traveling. I was restating what I was going to tell them in my head 20 times, and all they did was ask me to do a pledge, and it really is as simple as he states lol. Make the appointment, have your documents and fees, and with that I got it in 4 hours! Good luck!!!! Thanks!

Thanks to you, I was able to secure the appointment at the closest agency.(30mins. drive from home) My daughter needs her passport(just expired a few days ago) and we're traveling internationally within 14 days. I made a call at 7:59:00 a.m today. I had to navigate through some automated voice prompts (I think it was 1. En or Sp, 2. have you applied or not, 3. traveling within 14 days or not) then was put on hold for a minute or so, then I got connected right away around 8:00:30 a.m. or so.They gave me 4 different time slots for the day before the travel and I took the earliest one. I received the confirmation email as I was speaking to a agent at 8:06am. I pray that everyone who watches your video can get their passports in time.

I wonder if it was because I had an appointment later in the day so there wouldn’t be enough time to print and then pickup? Or maybe because I used an out of state driver’s license with supporting secondary IDs? Luckily my passport came in today. ( I went in for passport appointment on 4/19/2024 and received passport in the mail 4/23/2024). I’m happy it’s here in time but living through the stress of wondering if it’ll come in the mail in time took off a couple years of my life.

nato jacobs thanks for the comment and thx to timus both very helpful. Nato I wanted to clarify about changing your flight BEFORE your appt. We called and were given the passport appt. In L.A. 60mins drive 👍🏼 but the appt is the morning We Depart!! They gave us a 7am appt and our plane leaves at 12:30!!! I’m a bit nervous about changing my flight prior to my appt because it wont be the flight I originally stated it is!! ( think they record conversations?!?!) We were also told that “its at the discretion of the agent to determine when exactly ( my daughter, its for her) will get her passport. In other words there’s no guarantee she’ll get it that morning, much less on time to drive 20 more minutes to LAX n check in to flight!! This is soo stressful!! Don’t know if I should change my flight now or wait till that morning when we know that we’ll miss our flight for sure?!?! Kill me now!!😂

I’m so nervous… I booked my passport appointment when the expedited return time was 5-7 weeks and when I got to the appointment they changed it to 7-9 weeks 😭. The 7th week is a week before my trip. I pray I either get my passport or I’m able to get an appointment at an agency with the influx of passport applicants now.

You can call 1-877-487-2778 and explain that your passport is in processing. They are now next day shipping those passports and putting them through. You need to be within 5 days to get an emergency appointment or 14 days to make them 2nd day air ship your passport.

They require the expedite fee and they will not book an appointment until after you pay the fee then you have to wait 3 business days and call back if passport is not received. After that, then they will look in to an appointment schedule.

9/2023- I have called 4 times with no wait and very easy to call. I tried to call a couple days before my 14 days and was told to call back. On the proper day, I callled around 10 am and got an appointment immediately 3 days before my trip. Luckily I’m on the east coast and they’re more offices available but they will make the appointment at the closest to you.

Why are there agencies in big cities offering this service for $700-$1000 on top of the fees you pay to the govt? Do these agencies have some advantage in getting the appointments or what is the reason to go with one of them over doing it yourself?

Good morning! To answer your question…. These places are scams and they prey on desperate people. The only way to do this is yourself. The State Department has posted on their site that there is no fee for booking and anyone charging one is a scam.

They did seem confident at those agencies that they could get next day appts at the processing centers, I wonder how they are able to do that when we have to call ahead for a maybe. Same here! This is so damn frustrating!!! My family and I are traveling to Romania a week from today and we still don’t have my daughters passport We applied for it in March! They said it would take 8-11 weeks to be processed and it is still “in process” today We started calling within the 14 day window and every time we speak to someone they simply say that there are no appointments anywhere. We paid for expedited processing and shipping and still nothing At this point I’m more than willing to go to anywhere in the country to get her passport as long as I can get an appointment I’m gonna call again today and demand I speak to a supervisor or anyone else that can make something happen. I tried this today because because they advised me to call on Monday, since I travel on Sunday. Today I called at 7:59am EST, and they told me there are no appointments all over the country. I told them I needed to see my grandmother so we needed the kids passport it's been 10 weeks since the agency received the renewal application. The lady told me that unless I have proof that my grandmother has Alzheimer's then she can't help me. So I got my aunt who is a doctor to do that but now I feel guilty because I won't be visiting my grandmother. Do you have any advice on what to do? I lost hope. You make it sound so simple 😢

First off so sorry you have to visit under these conditions. Second, you should contact your local congress rep and have them expedite this process ( which they do) also keep calling. People cancel all the time.

So that means they do have cancellations on a daily basis. I contacted my congressman and they submitted an inquiry on my behalf. I hope it works. He said I might not get it by the date that I'm leaving since it's so close but they will try their best to help with the process.

Hi Timus, thanks for this info. Do you have to fill out the form before calling? On their website it states 14 days if you haven’t applied or 5 days if you’ve already applied. I’m not sure if they mean filling out and submitting this form before calling means call within 5 days from your travel date or if it’s not filled out before calling, 14 days.

Renewals are tricky because they get a huge rush in dec- jan for spring break and march-April for the summer. So it may be caught in the process.

I'm stuck on the part where I'm just trying to get the appointment tbh, I’ve called the passport agency several times at 8am even lol, and they have said to keep calling everyday to get a seat for an appointment. I guess my travel is too far out to be considered an “emergency” or “urgent” but even if I qualified to make said appointment, the passport agency even told me the seats for these appointments are super limited and fill up fast so an appointment isn’t even guaranteed. My trip is in August 4th I have time but my passport has been in processing for 13 weeks so I’m Just a little worried and losing a little hope…..

I called on April 24 for an April 25 appointment for an April 27 travel. I understand the pressure lol. But don’t worry you got this just be flexible where your appointment is. Dc is the best if you can fly out of here.

@@TimusTravels I'm actually like 10 minutes away from the Atlanta passport agency so getting to them isn't a problem but it's gonna be a pain if I have to drop a few hundos to get to dc or anywhere else to do an appointment, I dunno if that's even a real option for me atm due to financial restrictions 😅. @@TimusTravels still pushing to get that appointment man I even went ahead and sent in some paper work to the Georgia politician man Jon ossof himself and waiting on word back. It’s such short notice but it’s really almost all I have left, but tbh I’m super nervous and in a wreck over this. I had planned months in advance and just couldn’t get that appointment. I’ve got a little over 10 days before my trip but I’m pretty beat and stressed out at this point. I’ve been calling everyone and looking up everything i could, I don’t wanna give up hope but my girlfriend lives in the Philippines and I’ve had to tell her that I might not be able to make it there for her birthday, it was supposed to be our first big trip. I tried the best I could, i even got an appointment stolen under me as it was almost finalized, got the code to enter the door, ready to set my date and time, literally just to be told “ I’m sorry someone else just took it”….. I wish I would have done things differently I guess I’ll have to replan this whole thing. Your advice was super helpful just wish I watched this video earlier. and to those who could get an appointment, consider yourselves lucky cuz a lot of us aren’t so much lol.

But I saw all of the Google reviews on the Dallas passport agency and some folks are saying that they are taking walk-ins if your flight leaves in 48 hours. You just have to get there first thing in the morning when they open.

This is so damn frustrating!!! My family and I are traveling to Romania a week from today and we still don’t have my daughters passport We applied for it in March! They said it would take 8-11 weeks to be processed and it is still “in process” today We started calling within the 14 day window and every time we speak to someone they simply say that there are no appointments anywhere. We paid for expedited processing and shipping and still nothing At this point I’m more than willing to go to anywhere in the country to get her passport as long as I can get an appointment One thing I’ve failed to do is calling at 8am eastern (which is 5am my time in California) I will try this, I see you mentioned calling that early due to the limited slots available Grandma is not doing well, she has cancer and this is the only window of time between chemo that we can travel and to think that my daughter cannot go and on this trip is heartbreaking Aside from this - is there anything else you recommend for me to do?
