Good video ! The topic is close to my heart. For a traveller every moment of the expensive trip is precious. At the same time renting a motorcycle in Thailand can be a timeconsuming process with language problems and many worry about being scammed. Unfortunately many of the motorcycles being rented may not be in good condition. We just recently launched a business on Koh Samui aiming to do things differently addressing these and other concerns and provide a totally different experience : rent a bike without spending hours of your vacation on hazzle of renting, feel safe when renting, small scratches and stuff like that should not be a concern, ecofriendly electric motorcycles with enough power, bikes provided in good condition every time, not only provide rental but a service making sure you can focus on your adventure instead of dealing with things like regular oil changes or other maintenance. In the end while travelling I believe many people want to simply get from A to B safely having fun and enjoy the time of their life.

Interesting topic, thanks. Question please. Regarding insurance, if I don’t have a bike license in Australia but I hold a valid thai bike license, will the Australian insurance you shown cover me in Thailand? Or do I need Thai bike insurance.

If you are an Australian citizen and you purchased the insurance policy before you travelled to Thailand then you should be fine as you are legal to ride in Thailand. I'm not an insurance expert, it would be best to check your insurance PDS for more info! Some companies won't cover you if the bike that you hire in Thailand is bigger cc than a bike that you own in Australia. Good luck and ride safe mate. Cheers Simon

Question: Can I get a Thai MB lic if I am only there on a tourist visa and no Thai permanent address? If so, how long does it take to get one?
@Get-A-Life Жыл бұрын
You have to be a resident to get a Thai licence . I made this video mainly for the travel insurance problems. People don't realise that with no licence they will not be covered for medical bills of they crash the bike

Ok. Can you legally drive a motorbike in an international driver's license with a 60 day visa? Ive seen other videos that say you can only drive a car or motorcycle with a thai license after you have been there longer than 3 months.

Hi mate, As far as I am aware, if you live in the country on a long term visa such as a retirement visa you are expected to get a Thai Licence. You can ride on a 30 or 60 day visa with no Thai licence, just an international driving permit as long as you have a bike licence endorsement on your original licence. I have been stopped by the Police at checkpoints on several occasions. They always want to see the International Driving Permit! Only once have they checked it against my passport visa stamp. Hope this helps Cheers Simon

Hi Simon just came across your channel . Very informative, have a few questions i have a International Drivers Licence for car and motorcycle can i rent a motorcycle . Regarding the travel insurance, you said for a passenger the rider and passenger must have a license in the country youre riding in . Is it a car license or motorcycle licence, why would the passenger need a motorcycle licence if thats the case. If the passenger is 16 yrs old or under theyre too young to get a license. Last question do i still need travel insurance if i have health insurance. Sorry for all l these questions

Hi Ray, If you have an International Driving Permit showing a motorcycle endorsement then you should be legal to ride a bike. Only the rider needs a licence, the passenger and rider need helmets though to avoid fines and to be covered by travel insurance. Both the rider and passenger need to select adventure extras or similar to be covered. Regarding your medical insurance, check the product disclosure statement, or contact the provider to make sure you are covered. Cheers Simon

@raymondlowon7799 no props mate, have a great time on the bike. Stay safe. Sadly, there have been more than 100 road deaths in Phuket between Jan and Aug this year alone. Cheers Simon

What if you dont have driver licence at all, even from home coutry? you go to prison?
@Get-A-Life11 ай бұрын
No, you pay a fine. If you crash the bike you will have to pay expensive hospital bill yourself.

Understand all that mate but next time you talk to the police ask them why they are so stringent on only foreigners riding bikes and this requirement of having a bike lic back home but why do they permit e.g. I saw teenage girls on Bkk Suk road, in the rain, with no lic or helmet to ride a bike? ask them that and post their reply here, it would be really interesting to hear the reason. Arbitrary enforcement of laws is confusing. I have been driving in TH motorbikes with no bike lic back home for 30 years, never had a single problem except for a flat tyre, never had an accident as I drive with extreme caution because I know how those idiots drive over there and how cheap life is. Not recommending this but just saying all these requirements are not necessary because in my case I don't need a MB lic at home to ride safely in TH

It is frustrating that the police only target foreign tourists. There have been more than 100 road deaths in Phuket this year already.
