Mate, you’re a champ. I love it that you’re not about flashing your equipment, but about the local culture and the joy of riding. It’s so good to find your channel. It’s so inspiring. I’ll definitely use your knowledge and advise on my soon to start bike trips

They treat strangers like family. That is the beauty of Thailand.

Another place I've always wanted to head to with my bike. 2 things I noticed. Chani was making it look easy and loved your mention of that Thai ability to immediately start up a conversation. When my Thai wife and I lived in London, she knew all of the shopkeepers in our high street. Love it.

8:46 It depends. 1,700masl in the Tropics is actually very pleasant. I should know for I was born and grew up in one such place. 10:15 No gloves? What was your low gear?

I live about 35kms NE of Chiang Rai city midway to Chiang Saen and I thought it was hilly where I live!! I never knew that place existed and I've lived here for 8 years!! I usually cover between 250-300kms a week but, I'm not a climber at 80kgs and coming from a rugby and rowing background that kind of elevation in one ride would kill me. But, as it's on my doorstep, I'll be looking at heading over there and doing some riding. Great content by the way.

Could you give some information on how you go from place to place with your gear? How did you get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai with your bike and gear?
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
I live in Chiang Mai and I own a car so on this trip, I drove. On future trips however, I do plan to fly. There are many flights between CNX and BKK. Other places like Nan or Petchabun would be difficult without a car. Bikepacking to see the country would be a good option but also, just staying and riding around Chiang Mai is good too. Many routes and nearby provinces like Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son are really beautiful.

@@JohnnyZeeLee Thanks for info. I would want to avoid flying purely for the sake of not having to check in a bike and pack/unpack it. I did do some research and saw there are trains including an overnight sleeper but the 2 quickest trains of the lot dont allow bikes! 😂

@@user-uh6lm5wv6n Nok Air used to fly bikes for free, their owner was/is a keen cyclist. I flew to Nan from Bangkok with my boxed bike and a local bike shop there assembled it for 100 baht - and packed it on the return trip for the same price.

What gear ratios are you using to get up those hills? Regretting never taking my bike to Nan now! Next year I hope....
@JohnnyZeeLee Жыл бұрын
On this bike I have a 1:1 ratio. 34-34
@HairyPixels Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyZeeLeeok that makes more sense now :) still i'd die doing any 8 hour ride yet alone 4k of elevation gain.
