A simple way to make a badly scratched chipped damaged watch crystal look almost like new again. This video is intended for watches that are very nice, but not expensive enough to spend a lot of money replacing the crystal. When fully cured, it's a very hard finish. Enjoy the video!

They used to sell a resin product specifically for filling in scratches on eyeglasses and watch crystals but when I tried it, it gave the crystal a wavy appearance as well as not filling in the deeper gashes also it scratched up pretty easily. It might be better to just polish the crystal down with rubbing compound and polishing compound, of course that won't help with the gashes. I wonder if using the resin and then polishing it back down to the crystal might not be a better approach.

Hi! Love your videos. Another thing that works really well to fix a scratched up watch is to rub them with CIGARETTE ASH. I have a pack of cigarettes here just for this purpose. (I don't smoke.) just light a few, let them burn down by putting them in one of those little ashtrays where you can "attach" the cigarettes by their filters to the little cigarette holder ashtray side thingies and take that collected ash and just rub it around in circular motions on the watch face, rinse, and you are all set. It MUST be cigarette ash, not cigar ash, by the way. All the Best! Bill W8LV

Hey, very nice video. I bought the glues You mentioned. Mine wouldn't cure no matter what I did. Perhaps there is some variance in quality. Apparently oxygen inhibition is causing curing problems. I found a workaround. I glued a sapphire glass on top of the mineral one XD It works. Glue fills the scratches. No curing problems without oxygen, and its sapphire so no more scratches too. It looks bulkier tho. Thanks for the tip ;)

bbutc A solution to this would be to disassemble the watch, take out the internals, then fix the scratches.
@bbutc
@bbutc 4 жыл бұрын
@@maxsolo2652 This would be a good option but it depends on the watch. The watch I considered this for is over 38 years old and the 'internals' are very delicate. It would be a balanced decision on removing the scratches and risking upsetting or permanently damaging the internals or leaving it alone and living with the scratches, especially as it seems to working fine now. The scratches on the watch also have some sentimental value as I wore it on building sites across the country in the 1990's and one particularly large scratch, which was done soon after I bought it, happened when my younger bother pushed me into an unlit fireplace. Whenever I look at that scratch I think of him. lol
