A word of warning. I used this method to complete a single Bally MPU repair (with significant damage - 200 components to replace) in 2000 and ended up with a life-long illness as a result. Use fume extraction, mask, whatever it takes not to breathe in the fumes especially from sanding the board. Serious, serious stuff. No excuses.

In college I worked in chemistry labs w/ this type of stuff on electronics research. It's no joke! Be a dork and go hard on the safety b/c some of the side effects are wretched.

I'm actually a little surprised that the video owner hasn't made comment on this or put anything extra in his description considering his own reckless attitude toward breathing poison. I think that goes to show how much he cares about his audience, that not only did the top comment warning everyone about safety not even get liked by the creator, but that he really only wants comments to boost engagement. He mustn't read them at all. First and last video for me based on all that. At least he'll never read my criticism, and if he does, I'll be asking why he didn't at least like your comment until someone asked him why he didn't like your comment.

Also, please wear laboratory specs/safety goggles! If any of this shit ends up in your eyes, you will have a bad time. Sorry to hear about your health problems OP, but I'm glad you stopped by to offer these words of warning. Always read the MSDS!

Hi Jason, thanks for this video. I’m learning and this was very helpful. I have about 10 project games, the most challenging I received yesterday and had noooo idea what I was getting myself into…Addams family generator… battery damage, no schematics, nobody still services the boards, no parts out there…but I won’t give up. I would like to see this machine run for my father, he loves Addams family. You and I are likely from the same generation plans it’s great to see all the stuff you’ve worked on here in your channel. I hope to one day be as good as you and comfortable with all the various types of repairs. The battery damage and smoke fluid dripping on the pcb from the smoke generator has done some damage but hopefully I can plan things out and fix it. The good news is I hear the music when it powers on so possibly the game rom is ok. Talk about being in the dark though…I only have the photos found in forums talking about similar issues but everything is so dated. Everyone has moved on. I’m late to the party apparently, who knows, maybe I will discover things to help future generations working on this game

Keep in mind people, discharge your larger capacitors, if your gonna do solder rework, or replace electronic components. I made that mistake when I replaced the 72 pin cartridge connector to my brother’s NES. I used soler wick, and, it shorted a charged capacitor to a chip, and rendered the board completely useless. Be careful. Use a solder sucking iron, or a solder vacuum gun.

Keep the videos coming, can't wait to see how this turns out. I need to do this to my pole position board.
@orion310591RS3 жыл бұрын
Just use vinegar and cotton swab, wait 1 minute, then clean with isopropyl alcohol, repeat and be patient and no harm to you or board. Cheap, easy, simple. I managed to clean modern multimeter with SMD components like that.

I have an NES front loader i'm working on now that had major rust a corrosion damage. I think a dog peed on it many years ago. But i am facing the same repairs with a lot of the top coating having been stripped. I now feel a lot more comfortable doing the repair after watching your video. Now will you use some form of conformal coating on the board now that your repair work was complete?
@luxocrates3 жыл бұрын
Amen on the conformal coating. This repair job left a ton of exposed copper, and if that’s not quickly protected, it’s all going to rot away.
@kosztaz874 жыл бұрын
Would this method work for electrolytic capacitor corrosion too? I have a badly corroded board due to leaked out SMD capacitors. Could I use this technique? I already tried white vinegar and alcohol, none of them did much. Is the gunk from capacitors is alkaline too, so this acid would neutralize it?

God i wish i knew someone with your skills for arcade repair up here in Ontario Canada. Ive got two Frog PCBs that I need to get one working out out of between the two. Any ideas on what would cause a garbled screen issues. The first one I got the guy said it was working then went garbled on him after a bit of testing so he just gave it too me if i wanted to find someone to work on it. The second one i picked up off ebay for parts hoping that its just a bad rom and i can swap the roms between the boards for a quick fix. Also like other have stated keep the videos coming im learning a little bit more with each one.
