For any of you that spend a decent amount of time on the water, you know it's inevitable that your equipment will take a lot of abuse no matter how careful you are. One of the most common failures in our equipment is rod guides bending, inserts coming out or the entire guide snapping off clean. Instead of paying too much for shipping costs to send your rod somewhere to get the guide or entire rod replaced, you can replace the guide at home easily and cost effectively. Please give a THUMBS UP if you like the video, and be sure to SUBSCRIBE to see more videos in the future. COMMENT what you thought of the video and let me know what else you'd like to see!

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Thanks for the information. This is exactly what I been looking for since I don't care if it looks pretty as long as it works. Also don't want to spend too much on all the stuff that others recommend on buying to get this done. Your solution seems so far like the cheapest and most practical of the videos I've seen so far. Again thanks for taking the time to show us.

Could not find two part epoxy at 10:35pm in an Atlanta suburb. I used super glue to adhere the guide to the rod. Then I used Gorilla glue to "paint" over the thread I wrapped over the guide feet. Now I found out it had a chemical reaction to the super glue and turned into a total mess ( gorilla glue clouded up and formed a sponge like glob on both sides of the guide feet) Gonna have to strip off what I started and begin all over.

excellent video thank you. But and I am wondering if there is a way to just put some plastic back in the guide? The smallest guide on my 7 medium heavy fast, the tip guide, end guide, whatever the term is I am not sure since I fish some but have never done any actual rod crafting or maintenance…. Anyway the guide is still on the and secured, but it is all metal now, the plastic in it stripped off or something. And my dad’s friend who had previously been a guide and is wayeeee more experienced than me pointed it out to me and said yah you could just do it yourself. Lol, which led me to search out this video. So is there a way to just put some plastic back onto it?

Definitely don't use a lighter like that. It can melt the resin that holds the carbon together, and then your rod is done.

Can you over heat and damage the rod with the lighter ? How can you tell you heated enough so the old thread comes off clean without burning the rod ?

Yes. Don’t heat it much at all and don’t let the flame touch the threads. Rod can weaken and even buckle.

Thanks. It was too cold in my garage today for me to take a few minutes and notch a couple boards to hold the rod up. So I took a couple of my coffee mugs, put the butt of the rod in one handle and the other handle about 1/2 way up for an instant rod holder. Placing the mugs upside down raised the rod about an inch, but I set them on two TV trays to give me a little more room to work the thread with. If I didn't have the tv trays, I could have put the mugs on a couple of books to raise them.

@lorenyork
@lorenyork 2 жыл бұрын
Have a friend help you. They can learn this skill too! You should replace the second eyelet up because as line comes off the reel it often wobbles and sometimes this may cause it to partly wrap around the rod which could cause a tangle. Another alternative might be to just file the broken eyelet as flat as you can, but keep in mind that when landing fish with the rod properly bent, this increases the load on the other eyelets nearby. :)

Another tip. Be VERY CAREFUL witht heat you apply, especially if repaired a guide near the tip of the blank where its very thin. Take it from somebody who has learned the hard way... you can easily damage the blank with too much heat and destroy your rod. JUST ENOUGH HEAT TO MELT THE RESIN.

How you do that loop could not really see how
@mikelepori707
@mikelepori707 4 жыл бұрын
you can use a piece of thread about 10 or so inches long and fold it in half so that you have a loop. Then before you finish off the wrapping, you put the piece of thread you looped where you stopped wrapping. Make sure you overlap it so that the loop is showing. Continue wrapping over the thread loop several times. Once you reach the point where you are finished wrapping the thread, clip off the thread and leave a few inches. Take the tag end and run it through the loop. Keep tension on the tag end with one hand and grab the opposite end of the loop end and pull on it. You will see the tag end go under the wrapping so that you have a nice finish. Then you are ready to epoxy and finish the job! Hope that makes sense. Good luck.
