HI, I also got the same lighter. Problem here is that the flame is too large. When i adjust it to the smallest level there is a 5+ cm (2 inches). Do I need to replace the fuel nozzle?

My grandfather gave me this lighter and it’s giving me issues. It’s not wanting to light and I am using the same brand fuel you are. And the flint is good.

Where do you get replacement o rings? Is it a Schrader valve?
@rafaeltorre1643

The most used orings come from plastic disposable lighters. Specially adjustable ones especially with refill valves. “Crack lighters” are the best because they have 3 different small gaskets, a stopper gasket only found on these, a spring for other projects, and most importantly a tiny filter/sponge most people don’t even notice. This is crucial to having a reliable flame height control because it compresses to only allow so much gas to get through. Its way better than the one it originally had if it did. Clean any debris and sponge material and add the sponge according to size. You can find hole punches on eBay to cut sponges smaller or make a custom stopper. Easy. Also it’s recommended to add a o ring over the adjustable wheel to keep the flame wheel tight instead of it easily going up and down in your pocket before you get to light it again.

Hello, recently I've bought GS King, not event knowing what I was buying, but it turned out the gas is leaking, so I want to fix it and I wonder where did you get the o rings? I don't know if there are some universal o rings for lighters or should I buy a specific ones.

Help: I know I'm late to the party but I have 2 of these from my grandpa in basically mint condition. The issue Im having is I refill both of them and they work. I leave them for idk 30 mins and they stop lighting, as if the gas Leaked out or something. It's not making any weird noises when I'm filling them so I'm not sure whether this is normal for these type of lighters or I'm just a monkey If you guys can help me understand what I should do I'd love to restore these back to working order Thanks a lot

Cant Figure out how the gas is stopped without screwing it to zero with the adjustment wheel cause there is no spring in the gas valvet. Hope u know what i mean. When u close it, there is no mechanism to stop gas when u set a perfect gasadjustment over the wheel.

This lighter works like a zippo, or a better example, a petrol lighter. The lid is what stops the flame. Except its a butane valve that it’s completely open. Its is closed by the snuffer or stopper on the lid or arm. If leaking you need to make a silicone stopper by hand, since they don’t make gaskets specifically for vintage lighters. Look up lighters2018, he has several videos on exactly what to do. I prefer to repair and use piezo or battery ones so I haven’t worked on these yet, although I know exactly how they work. Basically make a gasket from silicone until you make one that works. After watching the videos.

@@ahmedros3713 He needs to make a stopper gasket. Thats why it has an arm to open and close right? The stopper on his needs to be replaced. That stops it. Its an open valve.

Crazy to find these conversations going on, i just sent my dad's old silver King electric lighter to be fixed for my bday on feb 3rd but they said they have no replacement parts etc. Just came back in the mail. It leaks, basically. Can be filled and lights a few times before it dies out. I want this fixed and usable, can you be more specific about which "plastic disposable" lighters you mean for getting parts from, like Bic, what ? Small/mini, regular, size ? The really cheap junk ones, which ? Thanks !!

Thanks for the tutorial, Allan! I'm into fixing a similar GS-KING lighter and it came in really handy! Mine is leaking gas from below, so I unscrewed the gas valve and replaced the o-ring gasket. But it's now leaking through the gas hole and I don't know if this can be fixed. Seems I'd have to take apart the gas valve assembly which should have a spring and a gasket to prevent gas flowing back out. Can this be fixed or should I just toss the lighter away?

Hi CP. I don't know if your problem can be fixed, or if it's even worth it. The lighter is certainly neat, but it's not worth much other than if you have a personal connection, like a hand-me-down. The lighter I showed still isn't working 100%. It's troublesome to refill and the flame goes really tall and then when it's warm the flame completely goes out. The question is should I really waste more time on trying to fix it? I really don't think it's worth the time.

@@ahmedros3713 I can guide you. If your lighter has a metal tank and has all its original parts, it can always be fixed. It helps to search the web for someone who is willing to save you the hours of research. Typically its always a few o ring gaskets, and a sponge sourced from a disposable plastic adjustable lighter under the flame valve. O rings are also sourced from there so take apart the flame valve and refill valve and grab every o ring/gasket and sponge (circle with hole in the middle directly under flame valve. You need every one. I know in the US you can easily get empty ones free since they are disposable. I specialize in metal butane electronic-piezo lighters and some battery operated butane ones. But I know how these work, I just haven’t worked on them personally yet. Start with this, he has a couple of videos on GS lighters: lighters2018. Look for the correct title. Remember that all lighters share the same concepts so check out similar videos on refill valves and flame valves. Check it out and get back to me. He has helped me as I learned the trade myself. I haven’t used a plastic lighter since. I rebuild them for fun and resale them for a small profit. If I can force myself to let it go. Lol

For some reason the bolt that allows access to refill the lighter just keeps spinning it does not want to come out no matter how many times I turn. Anyone could help me out ? Would love to restore since this was my grandfathers lighter.

You are turning the wrong screw. Thats the adjustment. There is no refill bolt.
