Dont know how I came across this video, but i learned WHY they would put a platic gear in there. Makes sense now. Great job.

I have rebuilt a number of these units and have found that there are two ways that most often leads to this repair. One is getting a spatula or other item in the bowl while mixing that locks the beater second most people never put some veggie oil on the accessories drive shafts like a grinder and they bind up and stall the drive. You are right this gear is made to fail and save the motor. Very well built mixer, I have three and used them for my restaurant.

@royfrancis8935
@royfrancis8935 Ай бұрын
@@maru.rdz6make sure you have put the brushes back in the correct way, the angled edge must be inserted into the position that has a 'wedge' at the bottom of the hole which is difficult to see, this stops the brushes from going in all the way and then does not make contact with the rotor

Thanks for the education on how to fix the KitchenAid. I truly learned something that I did not know. And you just proved that we are part of a throwaway society that was a simple repair and it makes perfect sense that that gear would be plastic so that it would break first before the rest.

God work, boss! One bit of advice I'd say is when putting several screws to attach something, get all the screws put in before tightening any of them..i see young guys put tension on bolts of motors or such, then struggle to get the rest started.

Nice informative video. I’m glad he mentioned using food safe gear grease. Using the proper grease is actually very important. I once learned this repairing gears on a commercial kitchen grinder and used gear oil. It was too light weight and ended up seeping into the motor bearings and seizing them.

Doesn't really matter what kind of grease you use if you pay attention and stop using it if / when it starts leaking. Some of the 'food grade' grease is crap and breaks down quickly and it's not exactly anything I want to eat. The grease is supposed to stay in the machine, then it won't bloody matter will it?

Question: why have a sacrificial part to save the motor should a jam occur instead of a racheting mechanism like in a drill gearbox/chuck? When it jams then the racheting mechanism engages and an audible sound is made to alert the user of jamming. No sacrificial part needed, no burnt out motor on jamming. Considering how expensive some of these appliances are surely they can adapt a similar mechanism from a drill gearbox?
